The club uses taboild articles as well as short films to examine some of the ways in which the media tries to convey ideas and, in some regards, attempts to influence our opinions.
The short films are all European award-winners, and are analysed looking at all aspects of style and direction to consider what message was being portrayed, and which techniques are employed to achieve or reinforce the message in the film.
Students will look at articles taken from newpapers and excerpts of political speaches taken from books. These are then discussed in detail, considering the persuasive, or ambiguous, vocabulary and concepts employed in order to try and convince the reader to adopt or accept a particular opinion, such as false dichotomies and the statement of opinion as fact.
