HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM YEAR ONE!
TOYS TOYS TOYS!
Namaste and welcome to Year One!
Miss Salmons, Mr. Cannon, Miss Wiggers
are the Year 1 teachers.
Meet our Teaching Assistants:
Mrs Moktan, Mrs. Jha and Mrs. Mukhia and us –
The Year One class of 2013 -14.
Mr O'Sullivan meets with our class once a week to teach P.E. and Mr Cannon meets us twice a week for a Music lesson and a singing assembly.
We really to look forward to seeing them!
This term, Year One are excited to be learning all about TOYS from the past and the present. We will sort toys into age groups and into the materials that they are made from. We will be making a waterproof coat for teddy and testing the most suitable materials.
Timelines will be used a lot to show what has happened, what is happening and what will happen.
We will be observing and comparing teddy bears to draw and discuss their differences.
In week 4, we are looking forward to inviting parents into the classroom to hear their children share a presentation about their favourite toys with the class.
(A timetable will follow shortly.)
Two of our highlights this term are our trips.
Trip 1: TEDDY BEARS PICNIC!
Thursday February 13th – Week 6
In Maths we are going to plan a party for our teddy bears by using tally charts to find out the most popular party foods, measure ingredients to make biscuits, learn about halves and quarters when making sandwiches and measure liquids to make drinks.
Trip 2: A WALK TO THE TOP OF HATTIBAN HILL AND THEN BACK TOSCHOOL FOR A NIGHT OF CAMPING FUN!!
Wednesday March 5th – Thursday March 6th.
(School Finishes early on Thursday at 12pm.)
We will take a mini bus to Hattiban, hunt for Gruffalo footprints, sketch the mountains, compare the surroundings with that of the Kathmandu city, follow a simple map and have a picnic. After a fun but exhausting afternoon we will come back to school where there will be a delicious supper, games, a camp fire, a talent show, hot chocolate with marshmallows and a story before getting into our tents with our teddy bears and falling fast asleep.
Here are a few things that we have been doing so far...
