Welcome to The Primary Section at TBS.
It’s my pleasure, as Head of Primary, to lead a dynamic Primary Team of 12 Teachers and 19 Teaching Assistants who are committed to a creative approach to delivering the curriculum for our Primary students. We believe in the joy of learning and provide as many educational opportunities as we can to foster this love of learning for our 3 – 11 year olds in the Primary section. We have three distinct educational stages within Primary, the Early Years setting for our Nursery and Foundation age children, Key Stage 1 for our 5 – 7 year olds and Key Stage 2 for our 8 to 11 year olds. We have 200 children and 11 classes in Primary in total. Some year groups have two classes as we balance the demand of children wishing to come to The British School and our aim of keeping our classes small.
We are committed to our children understanding the process of how they learn and why they learn. I see this in action every day. In addition to our creative approach to the curriculum we celebrate learning through themed days and weeks, through exhibitions of the children’s work, through our residential experiences and through class trips to places of local interest. As you view the individual class pages I hope you get a flavour of this.
We are an international community with a family ethos that results in belonging to a small school. We are proud of and celebrate our cultural diversity. We are also aware of how fortunate we are and we are committed to developing our community and charitable links within the local community. We are also an Eco-School and committed to achieving our ultimate goal to gain Green Flag Status.
We value our relationship with parents and together are committed to making the Primary section a thriving, welcoming and exciting place to be. It is with great pleasure that I observe how happy our children are to come to school, to learn, to be with their friends, teachers and teaching assistants.

Welcome to the Secondary Section of TBS
Not long into my first term here I was struck by how quickly I had become accepted into the family of TBS and how at home I felt. We are a diverse community of nearly one hundred and fifty students from Year 7 to Year 13. With a staff of twenty we are fortunate that as well as having small class sizes we can offer a good range of subjects at all key stages. Our diversity defines us in that whilst we offer a thoroughly British Education, following the National Curriculum and teaching internationally recognised UK qualifications, all our students recognise the need for tolerance and understanding. This nurtures one of our key strengths: respect for each other. This is demonstrated in so many ways. From our work with charities that goes beyond fund-raising to active involvement in local projects, to the way our senior pupils interact with younger students guiding them through a programme of welfare issues, respect for the individual is at the forefront of all we do. Nepal, and Kathmandu itself, offers a wealth of experiences that encompass a fascinating, cultural heritage, the opportunity for community work as well as adventure. Our various activities, including the International Award (the overseas equivalent of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award) provide a fascinating holistic education which is truly unique in Kathmandu.
The rest of these pages will tell you about the subjects we offer and our examination success. They will also give you an indication of the physical nature of the School, from the modern teaching resources we have available to the impressively advanced ICT all our students access. What the website will not convey is the vibrancy of our community, the integrity of our students and care with which every individual is welcomed and accepted into our School. I do hope you will take the opportunity to contact us and find out more about our unique British School.
