Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

Our topic this term is Bugs, Bugs Bugs! We are learning about plants and animals in their local environment and exploring the minibeasts that live in and around our school grounds. We have been out on a minibeast hunt and have found all kinds of interesting creatures, such as woodlice, spiders (hiding under the play house!) and ants, who are living in HUGE colonies in one of the trees. We found lots of wriggly earthworms hiding under logs and stones, as they like dark, damp habitats. We have kites nesting in the trees and sometimes see green parakeets flying by!

We have been making bugs from recycled materials to hang up from a huge spider's web which a spider is spinning on our classroom ceiling! We have used foil, old cardboard, sweet wrappers, plastic bottles and 'Gems' pots to make ladybirds, dragonflies and beetles. Jude has been making lots of models just using brown tape and cardboard!

On Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd March, we will be off to Sankhu on our exciting camping trip! We will be travelling up to the beautiful Newari town of Sankhu and looking at interesting features such as the natural landscape, the river, the forest and the old Newari houses. We will be doing some mapping work, finding key features in the village and marking them on a map, exploring how the village has changed over time. We will also be building natural sculptures by the river and exploring the plants, animals and minibeasts that live in the local environment. We will be camping nearby (and having hot chocolate and marshmallows around the campfire!) and will be keeping Mrs. Aryal and Mrs. Tamrakar awake with our excited chattering! On the second day, we will be hiking up to the Vajrayogini Temple and drawing the views across the valley, as well as looking at the incredible temple complex at the top. Come back soon to see the pictures and videos of our trip!
