Welcome


This Term we are learning all about the 



Terrible Tudors

ENGLISH


Our English program for this term is in three main sections which are as follows:

Weeks 1 - 3

POETRY

Students experimenting with expressive and figurative language, at rhyming words, and
at using similes and metaphors. At the end of this unit we will put together some of our
best poetry to make our own Year 4 poetry anthology.

Weeks 4 - 8

INFORMATION TEXTS


In weeks four to eight, year four will be studying information texts. Much of this will
also link to our topic of The Tudors, as students will learn about all of the features
of non-ficiton books. They will compile information from different sources and
eventually present information about a Tudor topic of their own choice 



Weeks 9 - 12

STORIES WITH HISTORICAL SETTINGS



Year 4 we are reading various books with historical settings.
In particular, the books of Terry Deary, whose novels are set in Tudor England
and contain much historical fact. Towards the end of this unit, we will be writing
our own stories that are set in Tudor times.




SCIENCE



In Science we are looking at two main areas. Our first until is all about


'Keeping Warm'



Children will be learning to use a thrmometer and how
to measure temperature. To learn what temperature is, how to keep
things warm or cold, and to learn about insulation. We will be
conducting some experiments to test some of our ideas.

The title of our second unit of work is entitled

'Moving and Growing'

This is primarily about the human body; about bones and
muscles, where they are in the body and how they work.

Shape (position and direction)
Fractions
Problem Solving



ICT


In our ICT lessons we will be gaining experience with using image editing
programs like Photoshop and will learn how to edit the images by using different
filters and effects. We will also use programs like 'Colour Magic' program
to design our own Tudor Rose.

ART




In Art we are looking at both portraiture - in particular Tudor portraits. We will make our own
portraits and self portraits in the style of the Tudor painters.



We will also create our own still life paintings using different media



Cultural Trip


This term , in Week 12, Year 4 will be going on its cultural trip to Changu Naryan with the students from Year 9.



This will be a great opportunity for students to explore and learn about Nepali culture and and history
  - going all the way back to the fourth century!
