In February some students from years 9, 10 and 11 sat the UK Maths Trust Intermediate Maths Challenge gaining 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 7 Bronze certificates. Of those students, 2 succeeded in getting through to the next prestigious rounds. Ojaswee RajBhandari( in Year 11) achieved enough to get through to the “Pink Kangaroo” round. She is only the 2nd person from TBS to do this! Jonathan Oatley (in Year 9) succeeded in gaining a Merit in the Cayley Olympiad round. He is the first student from TBS to get though to this round! Of the 3 long questions he answered he achieved 100 % of 2 of them! All those taking part should be very proud of their achievements and particular congratulations go to Jonathan and Ojaswee ·– WELL DONE !!· Note : On Thursday 25th April some students from years 7 & 8 will be taking part in the Junior Maths Challenge. The Primary School Council is hosting a Disco this Thursday 23rd May 4-5pm, for Early Years Key Stage 1 and 5-6pm for Key Stage 2. They are charging 100Nrs for a ticket which will include a drink and biscuit for EYKS1 and Key Stage 2 will also be able to purchase a drink and snack at the event. Funds raised will be donated to the DNC Library. The theme for the event is Masquerade costumes. We hope all children will support the Primary School Council.

Sports and Clubs News  Sports DayTBS held its annual Sports Day recently and this year it was held at the Armed POlice Force (APF) stadium. It was a great day full of sportsmanship, fun and achievement. Click here to take a look at images from the day. Mountain Bike Club As we approach the end of term 3 the Mountain Biking Club has enjoyed some fantastic rides. To celebrate three great terms of riding the Primary and Secondary Mountain Biking Club teamed together to enjoy a wonderful afternoon ride in glorious sunshine. A big thank you to Mr Sudeep Rajbhandari, Mr O'Sullivan and Mr Philips for organising the outing. Enjoy the pictures and video!
Secondary boy’s basketball. Our secondary boy’s basketball team recently played in the first NISSA (Nepal Inter School Sports Association) Basketball league. The league included KISC, Lincoln School, Modern Indian School, Wilson Academy and Rato Bangala School. In 2010, the students visited Dhading to perform a ‘needs assessment” in various schools, preparing the ground for the pilot project of 2011. On the 7th Nov 2011, we headed off to Dhading for a week, keeping in mind that our primary aim was to facilitate development. Nervous but focused, we were split into 3 groups, each visiting a different school around Dhading Besi. Read moreInternational AwardWhat is the International Award?The International Award is the name under which The Duke of Edinburgh Award is provided in over 30 countries. The British School Kathmandu is a registered provider of The International Award and offers pupils in year 10 and above, the opportunity to participate in this world respected Award programme. The International Award encourages and celebrates the contributions of young people in developing their life skills and involvement in the wider community. There are three levels of Award (Bronze, Silver & Gold) each requiring greater time commitment and perseverance. The youngest age to start is 14 (for Bronze Award) and young people have until 25 to complete any of the Award levels. There are 4 sections at each level; Service, Physical Recreation, Skill and Adventurous Journey, which must be completed. Bronze AwardLatest AssessmentThe start of February saw year 10 out on the Kathmandu Valley rim, completing their International Award Bronze Assessment. Starting from Kakani they trekked for 2 days along the Valley rim, with views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal for company. During the 2 day expedition participants were assessed on navigation, campcraft and cooking skills, as well as demonstrating teamwork and co-operation in completing the self supported trek. All groups successfully completed the Assessment and got back proud, if not a little tired and sore, with their sights on completing the remaining sections to achieve the Bronze Award. Well done all Silver AwardLatest AssessmentStudents from Year 11 have just completed their Silver Assessment Journey for their International Award. They spent three days trekking from the Kathmandu Valley rim, back to Kathmandu along the lesser used southern route. As well as great weather and sunsets, the groups enjoyed open air cooking, talking to the locals and carrying out their project work. Congratulations to them all. Gold AwardLatest AssessmentTwelve Year 13 students have taken part in their Gold International Award training expedition around the Kathmandu Valley rim. Their route took them from Nagarkot and Jhule towards Chisapani and then down to Sunderijal. They were fully self sufficient carrying all their own food, clothes and camping gear. The students enjoyed getting to grips with pitching tents, cooking on gas stoves and the looks of the locals, not used to seeing trekkers carrying their own kit. Although the weather was mixed, with some heavy rain, the students coped well with the expedition and have all now a much better idea of what is required for the Assessed Expedition which comes up in next term. click here to see images |
