Senior THIMUN 2018

Eleven students from Year 11 and Year 12 traveled to Doha in Qatar to take part in THIMUN 2018 - an international model United Nations conference, now in its 7th year, that attracts schools from all over the world.
Model United Nations is a simulation of the real UN, in which student delegations are assigned different countries that they must represent throughout several days of lobbying, resolution writing and debating. This year TBS was representing Algeria in a conference focused on promoting gender equality worldwide.
Assigned to the different committees of the UN, our students debated issues ranging from reductions in small arms to climate change to preventing tax avoidance by transnational corporations. They worked with students from schools all over the world, forging simulated political alliances and real friendships in the process.
Despite long, busy days, the conference still allowed some time for sightseeing, with the students visiting the Museum of Islamic Art and a traditional souq or marketplace.
With plans for a Middle School MUN trip later in the year, we hope that the senior delegation can now share their new, improved skills in international diplomacy with our younger students.
