Thank you to all the members of the TBS and wider community who gave their time on Wednesday to be part of our careers and universities day. We had over 25 guests taking part in the careers fair in the library and being part of Year 13 student led careers panels in the afternoon. We were also joined by university representatives from North America, The UK, Australia and Asia for a university fair outside the primary library. It was a full day of learning for Year 9 – 13, whilst Year 7 and 8 joined in the afternoon with an extended careers-focussed PSHE session.
The day started with a university presentation to Year 10-12 where Ms Sheldon introduced some of the university representatives who were talking about some of the areas students should consider when choosing countries, universities and higher education courses.
After the introductory talk, Year 10-12 broke into small groups to discuss higher education subject areas of their choice in greater detail with the university representatives, whilst former Head Prefect, and recent university graduate Sid Pradtham spoke to Year 13 about the challenges and opportunities in transition from school to an international university, based on his experiences of student life in the USA.
The afternoon saw Year 9 attend the careers fair, Year 10 and 12 the university fair and Year 13 students advising their Year 11 peers on A level option choices.
The final session of the day had Year 10 students working with Year 9 advising them on choosing IGCSEs and what they should know before starting Year 10, whilst Year 11-13 were able to attend two careers seminars, where student leaders from Year 13 chair and interview our panel careers panel guests. Students were able to choose from creative careers, entrepreneurship and business, medicine, wider health services, environmental careers and engineering and computing.
The university fair continued after school and the day concluded with the Year 9 Parents Information Session of Option Choices, led by Head of Key Stage 4 Ms Middlebrook preceding the Year 9 PTC and Options afternoon on Tuesday 4th March.
Thank you to Ms Sheldon and all those who worked so hard to make the day such a success and in particular to all our careers and university guests and the Year 13 student leaders who played such a key role in hosting and chairing the various forums throughout the day.
