The third annual TBS World Cup, hosted and organized by TBS students, was once again a huge success. 12 teams battled it out in the men’s competition with three women’s teams playing in the inaugural women’s competition. Teams representing countries and continents from all over the world competed in a highly competitive football festival. The TBS Senior Girls' team were victorious in the women’s competition rounding off a very successful year for them where they completed a unique treble of competition wins. The men’s competition had some very closely fought games with some fantastic displays of football and dramatic goals. It was a busy schedule with group games, quarterfinals and semis before the ultimate showdown of the day, an all Southern Hemisphere Final between Australia and South America. Australia captured the victory after a hard fought battle on a scoreline of 4-1!
The TBS World Cup is a great opener for a summer of World Cup football. Well done to all the students who refereed, kept track of the scores and organized on the day. Over 140,000NRs (roughly £1000GBP) was raised for TBS charities on the day from entry fees, food stands and community support!
