What a fantastic half term it has been for our Primary team, we have been very pleased to see such a great engagement from all our students, welcome our parents and carers in to share in their children’s learning and have held a series of information sessions where our teaching team have shared our strategies and approaches. We are always keen to hear the views of parents and have also gathered valuable feedback through our parent forum, and all the dates of future sessions will be shared on the Year Group websites. In addition, we have seen a great improvement in attendance and punctuality and thank our TBS families for your ongoing support. We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 20th February.

Foundation 1 and 2

The Foundation 1 and 2 children had a fantastic day filled with fun and challenges based around our ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ theme. We started the day by introducing our own teddies to the class. Then the children went on a ‘Teddy Bear Hunt’ where they had to solve the mystery of the lost teddy bears by working out the answers to clues and finding the bears in their hiding places. The children also took their teddy bears to the library for a special reading session and after, enjoyed a picnic together on our grass area.

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 had a wonderful day with the Year 12 students at Forest School. As part of the Duke of Edinburgh qualification, the Year 12 students planned and ran a number of activities over the day. These included some balancing, challenges, painting with natural materials and toasting marshmallows! Everyone had a wonderful time, so much so that a few fell asleep on the bus back to school!

Year 3 & 4

On Saturday, Year 3 & 4 spent the day creating props and a large map of Neverland for our Peter Pan production. We used our collage, painting, and drawing skills to create an amazing image of what we thought Hangman’s Tree would look like. We also worked on creating props for our Nursery and Pirate Ship scenes! A lot of creativity was used, and a lot of fun was had! We can’t wait for you to see our play!

Year 5 

The Year 5 students met the Disabled Newlife Centre students at the Simulation Science Centre in Kirtipur. Together they did lots of interesting experiments, learned to program mini robots and enjoyed an introduction to the planets. All students made their own healthy sandwiches for lunch and danced with one of the robots before returning to school.

Year 6

On Saturday, Year 6 had a great day working with the secondary students in a range of activities and projects outlined below.

• Geography and business where the students were working together to create a ‘not in our oceans’ fashion campaign. We will use discarded plastic and our creative minds to design fantastic outfits that will be paraded down a catwalk at the end of the day.

• ‘Mathematics and Computing Olympiad’ where students worked in teams to test their coding and problem solving skills in a range of challenges throughout the day.

• ‘A Living History’ where students found out some of the fascinating stories of people in our very own community, exploring the rich diversity our TBS community has to offer.

It was fantastic to see the Year 6 students working so seamlessly with the secondary students and showing their unbridled enthusiasm for learning.

Year 10 have had a busy start to term 3 and are now really settled into their GCSE examination courses. I have been really impressed with how they are all approaching their studies and take part in the range of extra curricular activities available. Some of the highlights from this term are shown below:

The Y10 Mandarin linguists did an amazing job hosting the Chinese Fair for the TBS Lunar New Year celebrations. To celebrate their contribution, as well as to practise conversational Mandarin in a more realistic environment, they spent a lesson with Ms Wong sharing some delicious Chinese food when practising how to describe taste and preferences. Everyone enjoyed this special learning experience!

Last weekend was also the World Scholar’s Cup Kathmandu Round. This is the first time students from TBS have entered this competition and myself and  Ms Wong were super impressed with all the students that took part, especially the Year 10 students.

Dia, Sivani, Raghavi, Nele, Saim and Aarush from Y10 had a very eventful and successful Sunday and Monday in the competition! Apart from the fact that they all adopted an alpaca, they did themselves proud in all the events they had to compete in. In Kathmandu Round, more than 700 students took part but they gained some very precious titles – all of them got GOLD in Team Writing and Team Debate events. From Year 10, Nele’s team came 7th out of all debate teams in the Senior Division! It is also fabulous that Sivani’s writing came 1st out of all Senior Scholars – Marvellous!

It is always a delight to have such an amazing performer like Raghavi with us. But this time, she has once again showed her special singing talent and enormous confidence to perform Speechless (from Aladdin) in front of close to a thousand people in the theatre! It was definitely the highlight of the Scholar’s Show because everyone was speechless when they saw Raghavi on the stage!

Last weekend also saw students taking part in the second co-curriculum day. Year 10 students took part in a range of different activities including: Aladdin – A play in a day, a Sustainable fashion show (Not in our oceans!), Living History, the Maths and Computing Olympiad & Organising the Community Football Day. Aarush team stole the maths shows by coming first in the Maths and Computing Olympiad!

Students who took part in the Sustainable fashion show ended the day by showing off their hand-made outfits on the TBS catwalk.

Year 10 did a great job at organising the community football event for our community partner schools and ended the day by writing some great news articles, below are two examples by Giacomo and Mahad.

On Saturday 4th February, the Drama Studio and Hall came alive for the day as over 50 students in Years 7,8, 9 and 10 assembled to create our ‘Play in a Day’, Aladdin. This was a ‘whole new world’ for everyone involved as it was the first time we had put on a production in 8 hours! The cast knew their lines, had been measured for their costumes and had learnt the dances and songs but everything else came together on the day!

There was not a dull moment throughout the co-curricular day as the students worked together as an ensemble to create a fun, colourful and dynamic production. The morning was spent choreographing group scenes  with Mr Orr and Ms Ealy, rehearsing dances and songs with Ms Gilbert and Ms Wynn, and blocking the key scenes with Miss Mountjoy. By lunch time, we were halfway through the technical rehearsal in which the lights, sound, costumes and colour of Agrabah were added. At 2.45pm we just had time for a speedy dress rehearsal before the audience arrived at 4pm (talk about cutting it fine!). I think it is safe to say it was a perfectly imperfect performance of which all of the students should be very proud!

The World Scholar’s Cup Kathmandu Round was a huge success for our TBS scholars! After three days of multiple rounds of intensive debates, collaborative writing, subject challenge and quiz, their hard work paid off! All of them did so well but to recognise the their extraordinary achievements, here are the trophies they won:

Yesterday we welcomed 28 students from our community partner school to be a part of a reading club with our 6th form students. This will happen on a weekly basis going forward.

Thank you to those parents who have timely confirmed that your child/children will be leaving at the end of the term. On-time notice is a must and compulsory requirement as per the school’s policy and avoids future consequences.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The last day of providing the formal notice of withdrawal of your child/children Friday, 3rd March 2023. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the admission office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents shall receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 3. Please let Ms. Manisha Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late or no notice of withdrawal and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.
