What a wonderful start we have had to Term 3! It has been great to welcome back all our young learners and they have engaged enthusiastically with all the activities planned for them this week.
The co curricular activities have also started this week, and we have very much enjoyed hearing our students talking about their experiences in their new clubs.
Over the next month, our Early Years children will be welcoming a range of special visitors as part of their ‘People Who Help Us’ Theme. This week, our Early Years students were thrilled to welcome their first special guest, Ms. Thompson, Head of Faculty for Secondary Science who brought the wonders of science to life through an exciting hands-on experiment! Ms. Thompson firstly explained to the children the important work that she does and then sparked their curiosity by carrying out an interactive experiment with the children which showed the fascinating reaction between baking soda and vinegar. Our budding scientists asked lots of interesting questions and have already asked for Ms. Thompson to come and visit us again soon!
After a fun holiday, the Year 1 students were excited to return to school! They couldn’t wait to see their friends and share all the fun things they did over the break. This week, they started a brand new book called Beegu. The story of Beegu, a little alien who is lost on Earth, made everyone giggle and wonder about space. They loved talking about Beegu’s adventures and how she felt when she was trying to find her way home.
In Maths, the class began exploring numbers up to 50. They played fun games to help them count, recognise, and write numbers all the way to 50. We explored a fun activity of counting by 10’s to 50 whilst we threw teddies into a hoop. It was an exciting start to the new term, and the children were eager to learn more in the days ahead.
Year 2 are so excited to be back after their holidays and are settling into their new morning routines really well with Ms Maharjan and Ms Hermon. The children are very enthusiastic about our new English book, ‘Billy and the Minpins’, and have already created some fantastic pieces of writing and come up with some extremely imaginative creatures and monsters that could be living in the forest. Our new IPC topic is ‘Who am I?’. For the entry point, we looked at photos of ourselves and discussed our different features. We also used a world map to pinpoint the places we are from and where our families and friends live.
Year 3 are very excited to be back at school and for the learning that 2025 will bring. So far we have been thinking about the wonderful ways that gardens make us feel, and we are going to try to grow some of our own beautiful flowers in the classroom. We have also finally begun work on our upcoming show, and can already sing lots of the songs! We can’t wait to perform for you later in the term.
Year 4 had an amazing first week back at school. Something very strange happened, where parts of a robot were found in the classroom! The children enthusiastically asked questions and made predictions about where the robot had come from. A particular highlight was auditioning and practising their songs and lines for their upcoming performance.
It has been wonderful to welcome the Year 5 students back to school, along with some new faces joining our year group. This term, we’ve embarked on an exciting journey back in time to Ancient Greece, exploring the origins of the Olympics and discovering the fascinating inventions and innovations that shaped Greek civilization and still influence us today.
What a wonderful first week back for Year 6, with the children enthused and eager to learn. The IPC exit point this morning was a wonderful opportunity to showcase learning with parents and family, and the children worked hard over the week and just before the winter break to produce lots of fascinating outcomes to reflect their understanding of the topic, Champions for Change. The parents/carers also had the opportunity to view the wonderful art created during their time working with Ms Daly, the secondary Art teacher.
