Bring and Buy Sale

On Tuesday 7th May, the House Captains organised and hosted a ‘Bring and Buy’ sale. The purpose of this sale was to raise money for our community partner schools. The House Captains also linked this to the Sustainable Development Goal – ‘Responsible production and consumption’, reasoning that it is better for people to donate their unwanted goods for others to enjoy rather than have them go to landfill. They also made a connection to the goal – ‘Reduced Inequalities’, identifying that our community partner schools do not have as many resources as we do and would be helped by our donation. We had a great number of donations and many people attended the sale. In total we raised 43,715 rupees to donate to our community partner schools. Well done to the House Captains and thank you to all of you who participated!

Year 5 and 6 Exit Point

Year 5 and 6 had their Exit Point for the ‘Sustainable Development Goal’ unit on Tuesday 7th May. Year 5 has been exploring the goal ‘Reduced Inequalities’. Their final project was to produce a piece of artwork to advocate for one inequality, create a website with information about their chosen inequality and then present it to their parents. They also hosted a silent auction for their artwork and will donate any money made to our community partner school.

Year 6 focused on the goals of ‘Life on land’, ‘Affordable clean energy’, ‘Climate Action’ and ‘Sustainable cities’. They made sustainable cities using recycled materials and designed posters with information about the demographics of their city and how sustainable their cities were. They presented these to their parents who were very impressed by the students’ wealth of knowledge.

Early Years Fun Day

Our Early Years children have been eagerly counting down the days to their family day which was held on Monday at the British Embassy. The children, their parents, teachers and 8 Y9 student volunteers had a very memorable day filled with fun and laughter. The day started with some circle time and parachute games and then the children did a range of enjoyable activities together with their parents. Afterwards, it was the parents’ turn to challenge themselves! They had lots of fun undertaking an egg and spoon race, sack race and paper aeroplane throwing. It was great to see everyone enjoying the day and making special memories with family and friends.

Junior Mathematical Challenge

Sahas and Jeongyoon both qualified for the UKMT Maths Olympiad due to an exceptional performance on the Junior Mathematical Challenge. Of all the thousands of worldwide entries for this prestigious competition only 1,200 are selected for the UKMT Maths Olympiad, so this is a real achievement for Sahas and Jeongyeon and the whole maths department. Well done!

End of Year Assessments

Year 7-10 are getting close to their end of year assessments. Due to their humanities trip to Pokhara after half term (27-31 May), Year 8 start their assessments on Monday, whereas the other three year groups will start their assessments in the week after the half-term break. Timetable and revision advice was sent to parents at the beginning of the week and can be viewed by following the link here.

PIS Additional Learning Needs and Neurodiversity

Thank you to the ALN team for organising this very well attended event this morning. It was standing room only in the library as we had an even larger turnout than we expected and it is always encouraging when the Parent Information Sessions the school provides are well received by our parents.

IGCSE and A level Options

Following provisional choices earlier in the year, Year 9 and 11 are now making informed choices based on the published option blocks. The good news is that at A Level, due to anticipated demand, we have been able to add a second media studies group, allowing virtually all students to select their first 4 choices and all returning students can select four of their top five choices. At IGCSE, without a “free” study block to add flexibility to the timetable, it is always more challenging, but the addition of a second business studies class for the first time this year (as well as the introduction of IGCSE photography) mean that over 99% of final allocations can be from the top 5 choices made by students earlier in the year.

Every Friday, you will receive Yeti News. Inside, you will find lunch menus from two providers: Yellow Bamboo and Khaja Ghar. To order lunch for your child, please follow the steps below:

1. Complete the Google form and ensure you enter your child’s name and year group correctly.
2. When making an online payment, please include your child’s name and year group in the payment remarks.
3. After payment, take a screenshot of the receipt and send it to the appropriate lunch provider’s contact number provided in the Google form.

The annual photo orders are ready for collection. Please visit the school community shop to collect your copies if you have placed orders.

TBS OWLS Students and Parents Family Picnic is just around the corner! Please join us for a wonderful outdoor gathering and bring a dish to share. We promise you that it is going to be a fun day with bouncy castle, jenga, bingo, and many more. Save the date and hope to see many of you there!

We are thrilled to invite you for the second Community Concert ‘One Big Family’, taking place on Thursday, May 30th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in the TBS hall. Students from Year 1 to 6 will showcase their talent by performing songs and dances in both Nepali and English, alongside students from our community partner, The Shramik School, promising an unforgettable concert experience!

Our dedicated community ambassadors will be at the door to collect donations, with all proceeds going towards providing daily snacks for the Early Years students at The Shramik School.

We are eager to unite with our TBS community and create lasting memories that will resonate within our school and beyond. Let’s join hands and celebrate the essence of unity, creativity, and togetherness with our community partner school.

Thank you to those parents who have confirmed that their child/children will be leaving TBS at the end of the term, i.e. Friday 28th of June 2024. Adequate notice is a requirement and avoids financial penalties for parents.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The deadline for providing the formal notice of the withdrawal of your child/children is Friday, 31st of May 2024. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the Admissions Office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents will receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 4. Please let Ms. Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late notice of withdrawal (or providing no notice) and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.
