We were saddened to hear of the passing of Jane Goodall last week. We have fond memories of Jane visiting TBS last year and giving an inspirational talk to students about her life in conservation. She spoke of how she first became interested in working with animals and of her studies with chimpanzees in Tanzania. It was truly amazing to hear her accounts of her research and the realisation that the animal kingdom is more linked to humans than we had ever imagined. Jane was a passionate conservationist and her work with young people all over the world on conservation issues will live on.
In memory of Sangita Pandey, who worked at TBS from 2018 until her sad passing in December, We are very pleased to be opening Sangita’s Story Swap. We will be holding a short opening ceremony at 1:20pm on Saturday and those of you who knew Sangita and wish to attend are more than welcome. Sangita loved reading and so she would be very proud to see Primary children reading at lunch times and breaktimes. If you have any old children’s books at home that you would like to bring in please do drop them at reception.
We are looking forward to seeing you all at Intercultural Day tomorrow. There will be plenty for you all to enjoy and we look forward to seeing the wide range of cultures that will be represented by the TBS community.
Kind regards,
Caro

Eco News
As our Eco Ambassadors continue to evaluate and improve the Eco Status and sustainability of our school, they have worked on an initiative to demonstrate links within our curriculum to the United Nations Sustainability Goals by making them more visible within our school with what they are calling our “Literal Sustainability Steps’.
Primary News
The Primary & Early Years Team have very much enjoyed welcoming the students back for Term 2 which is off to a very positive start.
This week’s assembly celebrated our wonderful student leaders and the important roles they play in our school community.
We were delighted to announce our new Community Ambassadors who will be leading on community projects and initiatives and Play Leaders, who will be helping to make playtimes more inclusive and fun for everyone.
Community Ambassadors:
Play Leaders:
These students have shown excellent leadership qualities throughout the selection process and we would like to take this opportunity to wish them well in their new roles. Our Student Librarians will be announced next week – we’ve had some fantastic applications and can’t wait to reveal who will be joining our library team.
Applications are now open for our Leading Linguist roles! Ms Cotterill will be visiting classes next week to share more information about this exciting opportunity and what being a Leading Linguist involves. If you love languages and want to inspire others, this could be the perfect role for you.
A special highlight of the assembly was watching our newly appointed House Captains lead their very first assembly. They did a brilliant job and we’re so proud of how confidently and enthusiastically they’ve stepped into their roles. It’s clear our houses are in excellent hands this year!
Well done to all our student leaders – you’re already making such a positive difference in our school.
We are very much looking forward to seeing you all at Intercultural Day tomorrow. Our Primary students should arrive at the usual time of 8:00am and be dropped to their teacher to go into class for the first 30 minutes. At this time the Yeti Cafe will be open, please make use of this as you wait to join the fashion show on the Primary Astro once all the children have been seated.
In line with our sustainable schools ethos, we would encourage you to bring a reusable cup with lid for your hot drinks, where you will receive a discounted rate for bringing your own cup, you can also purchase a TBS Eco Cup at the Yeti Cafe whilst stocks last! In addition, please provide a reusable container for your child to use at the food fest, there will be eco options available to purchase from our Eco Ambassadors by the school entrance.
Little Yetis
This week in Little Yetis, our learning was bursting with colour as the children explored the theme Colours and Rainbows. Through a range of creative, sensory, and outdoor experiences, we celebrated curiosity, discovery, and had plenty of giggles along the way! In our library and sensory area, the children loved exploring books about colours and rainbows, sharing their favourites and predicting what might happen next. The highlight was our Fizzy Rainbow science activity, that bubbled and fizzed into bright, foamy rainbows! The children were fascinated by the reactions and had fun experimenting with squeeze bottles to see which colours mixed to make new ones. Our craft activities encouraged both creativity and fine motor skills. The children made beautiful paper plate rainbows using cotton balls and pegs for clouds, and created tissue paper letters using the first letter of their names. This hands-on task helped strengthen their fingers while reinforcing letter recognition in a fun, tactile way. Outdoors, our focus was on numbers and movement. The children enjoyed a colourful bowling game, rolling tennis balls to knock down numbered, water-filled bottles, cheering each other on as they practised counting and colour recognition. We also explored Rangoli-inspired painting, using bright patterns to celebrate colour, shape, and symmetry. It’s been a joyful start to the term, full of laughter, learning, and creativity. A true celebration of the wonderful world of colours! We look forward to seeing our Little Yetis again next week for our Forest Friends session.
Secondary News
Senior Volleyball v LIncoln School, Saturday 20th September
The British School’s boys’ volleyball team put on an impressive display in a friendly match against Lincoln School on the first day of the Dashain holiday. Both teams demonstrated strong teamwork and sportspersonship throughout the game, making for an entertaining contest from start to finish.
Our players demonstrated high levels of consistency, especially through multiple strings of accurate serves that ended in aces. This strong service display helped us gain momentum in crucial moments when we were trailing.
The final result was a highly credible 2-2 draw and this fixture, against an experienced Lincoln team, highlighted our team’s potential given it is in a much earlier stage of development and also served as great practice for upcoming matches.
The TBS girls’ volleyball team also demonstrated real progress, maintaining focus and energy throughout the match. Strong serving runs and significantly improved coordination helped the team stay competitive in key moments, reflecting on how much has improved since the previous match we had last year.
Although the final result didn’t go our way, this friendly match highlighted the team’s potential and marked one of the best performances so far. It was an encouraging step forward as we continue to build confidence for the upcoming matches this year.
