Students in Action (SIA)
We are twelve TBS students, ten from Year 6 and two from Year 7, who have been selected to participate in the Students in Action Program hosted by the SALT school in Seoul, South Korea.
We aim to further develop student-led community collaboration at TBS, focusing on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (reducing inequalities).
We meet every Tuesday to plan the community club and ensure Mary Ward and the younger TBS have the best time learning and playing together. We prepare and lead arts and crafts activities and lots of games. We ensure we explain every activity in both English and Nepali.
We also hosted brainstorm sessions for our community partner school students and TBS students to find out which activities they would like to do together.
A small group of us went to the year one classroom to discuss what they wanted to do with Shramik School. They had great ideas, such as a scavenger hunt, maths games, and setting up a parkour course using the balancing beam and hula hoop. We noticed that Year 1 students love sports because they think of lots of sports ideas.
Another group ran an assembly with the Year 5 and 6 students and asked them to write down ideas for activities with their community partner, Shree Tika School.
A few of us met the Year 3 and 4 students in the library and asked them to write ideas on chart paper for collaborative activities with their community partner, Mary Ward School. They also had fantastic ideas that we took into deep consideration, like a book swap, buddy reading, and Maths contests.
This week, we did the same activity with the students from Mary Ward, and like the TBS students, they also had many wonderful ideas, like an art exhibition and fun Nepali games.
We are developing several leadership and teamwork skills while preparing, leading, and evaluating these brainstorming sessions and the community club.
Over the coming weeks, we will prepare for our trip to Seoul, where we will present our community projects at the ICAE 2024 Conference at the National Assembly of Korea.

Even though only two secondary students are involved in the SIA project, we have attended all our meetings and been included in every step of the project. I, Sophia, am one of the two students and being part of this project has opened up my view of the SDGs. I have done one of the after-school activities out of two, as I have lessons till 3:30 pm. I have really enjoyed working with the Mary Ward students and playing snakes and ladders with them. We have learned about two of the SDGs, number 4 and 10. Sophia and Soren (Year 7)
