It has been wonderful to see everyone back at TBS and settling into a very successful start to the new academic year! We kicked things off in style on the first day back, with a surprise assembly visit from the naughty Yeti and their friends, the Learning Animals, who had students laughing and engaged from the very start. We were also delighted to welcome so many parents to our information sessions, held across every year group from EYFS through to Year 6, giving families a clear picture of what’s ahead this year. Since then, students have settled in beautifully, diving straight into their learning with enthusiasm and energy. It has been a brilliant start to the year all round! Below you can find some highlights from the year groups.
EYFS
Early Years have had a wonderful week. They have loved visiting our Forest School site and exploring the Mud Kitchen. They have been excited to explore their classroom and outside area with lots of discussion and friendship building taking place. It is lovely to see such a strong positive start to their school year with many more awesome memories to come!
Year 1
Year 1 students have had a brilliant first week. They have loved using their senses in Forest School and making playdough. The children have been getting creative with cave art inspired by Cave Baby. They also learned about our school’s learning animals and the values they represent, thinking about how these can help us as learners and as a community.
Year 2
Year 2 students have been settling in well this week. They have enjoyed meeting their teachers, reuniting with old friends and making new ones. We started the week with our first Forest School lesson, where the students embodied the qualities of Cooperative Ants and Enquiring Owls as they explored the site and took part in activities with other classes.
Year 3
Year 3 students have made a wonderful start to the year. It’s been lovely to see all the children settling in well and enjoying their learning. We started our IPC Brainwaves topic by working as ‘learning detectives’ to investigate what makes TBS a great learning environment. In English, we read a poem called ‘Me!’ by Swapna Haddow and celebrated all the things we love about ourselves! In Maths, the children were Thoughtful Monkeys and Enquiring Owls as they solved problems and developed their understanding of numbers up to 100. They worked carefully, shared their ideas, and used different strategies to find solutions. In Computing, the children were Cooperative Ants as they worked together to sort different digital devices and identify the features and characteristics they have in common. They enjoyed sharing their ideas and learning from one another.
Year 4
The children have made a fantastic start to Year 4 and are settling back into school really well. We have been getting to know our new classmates, taking part in team-building activities and thinking about how we can make everyone feel welcome, included and part of our class community. It has also been lovely to meet our new specialist teachers, with the children having a fantastic time in PAWs, Music, P.E. and Nepali. We have also begun our new IPC unit, Brainwaves, with a fun scavenger hunt and some team problem-solving activities to help us begin thinking about how our brains work and learn.
Year 5
What a wonderful first week back it has been! Our Year 5 students have settled in beautifully, diving straight into learning about how their amazing brains work and grow and also discovering that mistakes are simply a sign of learning in action. They’ve been busy building a safe and caring classroom community, getting to know one another, and warmly welcoming new friends into the fold. Students also took time to set their intentions for the year ahead, reflecting on their goals and the kind of learners they want to be. With strong foundations in place, Year 5 is buzzing with excitement for all the learning adventures still to come!
Year 6
Year 6 have been enjoying getting to know their new classmates as well as welcoming brand new students to TBS. Students have enjoyed setting goals for the year, drawing self-portraits, and starting two exciting books in Guided Reading and English! Now that they are the top of the school, they are developing as Responsible Dolphins and, as we start new projects, they are all being Enquiring Owls!
