Science Week got off to an exciting start with a special visit from Detective Spectrum and Professor Prism, who arrived with a puzzling problem—the colour green had mysteriously disappeared! Luckily, with the help of the Primary Colours, we worked together to bring green back. Professor Prism then amazed us with fascinating colour experiments, showing how science can bring magic to life. Inspired by these discoveries, we eagerly set off to our classrooms to explore our own colourful science investigations.

Early Years
This week our young learners undertook lots of fun and exciting experiments linked to our theme of ‘Spectrum: A festival of science and colour’. They explored colour mixing with food colouring and water, did a chromatography based experiment by separating the mixture of colours in ink as well learning about diffusion by doing a Skittles experiment with Ms. Thompson. These activities not only sparked their interest in science but also helped develop fine motor skills and fostered creativity!

Year 1
Our young scientists dived into a world of discovery during Science Week! They experimented with blowing colour explosions, using straws to create bursts of paint just like real chemical reactions. They also designed eye-catching signs for their Science Fair table and joined in a Holi Colour Blast experiment, ready to showcase their vibrant learning at the fair. A week full of creativity, colour, and hands-on science fun!

Year 2
Year 2 students turned into little scientists as they explored the fascinating Walking Water Experiment! With just a few simple materials—cups of water, paper towels, and food colouring, they witnessed the magic of science in action. Through this hands-on activity, they discovered capillary action, the same process that helps plants absorb water through their roots. They also observed colour mixing in action, reinforcing their understanding of primary and secondary colours. The excitement in the classroom was wonderful as students predicted, observed, and discussed their findings.

Year 3
Year 3 have had a fun science week, they have carried out experiments to see if it is possible to create muti-coloured flowers using food dye.
Following our initial investigation the Year 3 Scientists, developed a range of scientific questions to develop their findings and planned their own small scale investigations for the science fair. They took the lead, with a little bit of support from Year 9, to plan these investigations, what they would need and what variables they would change. They independently prepared their presentations for parents on Friday afternoon.
Well done Team Year 3!

Year 4
Year 4 had an exciting time exploring colour through science! We conducted a water fireworks experiment, carefully planning a fair test by changing one variable at a time to create the best explosion of colour. We then planned how to share our learning at the Science Fair. Our learning continued with a visit to Secondary, where we experimented with acids and alkalis to create amazing colour changes. Science has never been so fun and colourful!

Year 5
During Science Week, Year 5 students had an exciting opportunity to explore robotics by building and programming Crumble Kit robotic cars. They worked collaboratively to assemble the components, connect motors, and use coding to control the movement of their cars. Through hands-on experimentation, students learned about circuits, algorithms, and problem-solving while testing and refining their designs. The activity not only enhanced their understanding of engineering and computing but also fostered creativity and teamwork. By the end of the week, the students proudly demonstrated their robotic cars in action, showcasing their newfound skills and enthusiasm for STEM learning.

Year 6
Science Week kicked off with a bang for the Year 6 students! They began by making predictions about what would happen when different ingredients were combined, carefully choosing one variable to change to ensure a fair test. The highlight of the experiment was the large bottle, which produced the most impressive ‘elephant toothpaste.’ Throughout the week, students worked on their presentations and prepared engaging Art and Science activities for their peers to enjoy at the Science Fair.

Science Week wrapped up in the most vibrant way possible—with a fantastic Science Fair bursting with colour and creativity! Our student scientists took centre stage, confidently explaining the fascinating science behind their colourful experiments. From rainbow reactions to dazzling colour changes, every display showcased curiosity, discovery, and a true love for science.
