University and Careers
Thursday saw a range of universities from the UK, Australia, Hong Kong and the USA visit the school for a university fair. Students from Year 10 upwards were given time slots to visit the fair and ask questions of the various universities. After school we invited students and parents from the wider community to join us and Ms Sheldon was able to share some advice on improving your application and Mr Draper reported back from his recent tour of Australian universities (for which we are very grateful to have been supported by one of our parents).
Community Partners
This week we have launched our Christmas gift bags which will be gifted to primary age children from a number of our community partners before the end of term. We have set ourselves a school target of 600 bags. Each bag should be of value up to 1000 NPR, but students who want to gift more generously are encouraged to prepare several bags so that each individual bag is of a similar value. All charitable contributions are voluntary and we are grateful to all members of our community who choose to contribute. Please support your children in this activity, perhaps helping them to buy the small gifts, stationery, toiletries and clothes items as recommended by the schools. Thank you to the KS3 aspiring leaders who are leading in the direction and collection of the Christmas bags.
Thank you to Mr Palmer and Ms Maharjan from Primary who ran a Community Partners PIS on Monday, where they presented on the community partnership work that has happened and is planned at TBS.
Creative and Performing Arts (CPA) Update
School choir at the British Embassy and BGN annual remembrance day service
Ms Freeman accompanied as a good number of the TBS secondary choir joining forces with their counterparts at KISC to lead the music at the traditional 11th November Remembrance Day service at the British Embassy. The 11 hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (marking the World War 1 armistice in 1918) has since been an annual commemoration when UK and Commonwealth countries stop and pause for reflection in memory of those whose lives have been affected by armed conflicts and wars.
AS Scripted Drama Exam
Last Friday saw an outstanding exam performance of an extract from the Tony Award Winning play ‘Jerusalem’ by Jez Butterworth. Congratulations to the five Year 12 students involved who were all inspirational in the roles. We always expect high standards from TBS drama exams but this performance was truly magnificent and will live long in the memory of those who were fortunate enough to see it.
Joseph K
Thursday saw our senior students perform this year’s senior play Joseph K written by Tom Basdon. Joseph K is described as a darkly comic stage adaptation of The Trial, relocating Kafka’s classic novel to twenty-first-century London. As ever, the Drama department served up an inspirational performance with the cast rising to the challenge of interpreting this complex and challenging play with too many memorable stand out performances to name individually.
Art Trip to Bangkok
Not to be outdone by drama and music, Mr Sands and Ms Daley are taking the IGCSE and A level art students to Bangkok the week after expeditions where they will work on their art portfolios and attend the famous Bangkok art biennale. We look forward to seeing their photos and the art pieces they will produce from this exciting curriculum trip.
Winter Concert
The CPA Winter concert showcasing all KS3 PAWS performance as well as other individual and group pieces will be at 5:00 pm on Tuesday 3rd December.
Physical Education and Sports Update
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team had a highly entertaining match against Rato Bangala School last Friday with the final result in doubt until the final seconds. Despite a brave performance and much possession TBS lost by a single point with a final score of 18-19.
Boys Football
The boys football team, inspired by a rare headed goal by Aryan Singh and another strike by Ishat Rijal on his 18th birthday, steadily imposed themselves on the game and eventually were comfortable 4-0 winners against Swosti Shree School
U13 FOBISIA trials
Well over half of Year 7 & 8 took part in the U13 FOBISIA trials this week, making the selection of the final 12 boys and girls who will represent TBS next term a real challenge for the coaches. Thank you to all students who put themselves forward for selection and congratulations to the lucky 24 who made the final squads.
NISSA finals
The finals of the senior NISSA sports league take place at GEMS on Saturday. The girls start at 8:00 am and the boys at 9:00. The teams would really value the support of any parents and students who would like to attend.
U15 FOBISIA sports
We wish every success to the U15 FOBISIA teams who are taking part in their tournament after expedition week
Expedition week Link to website
Expeditions are a central part of the core educational programme at TBS and there are 8 exciting expeditions that are planned next week that would be the envy of any other school in the world. For many schools, adventure and challenge expeditions in Nepal would be sold as the trip of a lifetime and cost thousands of pounds. At TBS these trips are included in school fees and secondary students can take part on one every year that they are at the school. Thank you to Ms Martinez, Mr Palmer, Mr Shrestha, all the trip leaders and the whole school staff who have worked so hard to ensure these trips run smoothly and safely next week.
