Year 10 Art and photography trip to Patan
On Thursday Year 10 Artists and Photographers took a trip to Patan, where they had the opportunity to explore and document the rich cultural heritage of the area. They photographed the intricate architecture of ancient temples, stupas, and courtyards, capturing the detailed sculptures and carvings that adorn these historical sites. Students also engaged with local people, photographing their everyday lives and the vibrant street scenes of Patan. We ended our afternoon with a selection of Newari food on a rooftop overlooking the Durbar Square. These photographs will form the foundation of their GCSE coursework, enabling them to explore themes of culture, heritage, and human interaction in their artwork.

Year 8 Pokhara Trip
All of Year 8 will be on an outdoor learning trip next week as they visit Pokhara with the Humanities team. Thank you to Ms Hall and her team for organising this trip. Students will be carrying out field study activities in Geography, History, Sociology and Business using some great locations in and around the Pokhara area.
Mock Exams
We have reached the halfway point for mock exams. Mocks continue next week and finish next Friday. Following mock exams there will be RP2 Progress Reports and Parent Teacher Conferences for Year 11 (Tuesday 11 February) and Year 12/13 (Monday 17 February).
A Level Options Information PIS (Tuesday 11 February)
This will be integrated into the Year 11 PTC event. There will also be a presentation on the TBS sixth form for any students and parents thinking of joining TBS for A levels. Please do pass on this invitation to any families you may know who might be interested in exploring this option.
The TBS academic team will also be running a one month “Readiness for A level course” starting on 28th May and finishing on 27th June and running to the end of term. This is specifically aimed at students who are not taking IGCSEs but are thinking of transferring from the Nepali education system after SEE to an international programme for their final studies before university. Full details of this course will be available at the A Level Options Information presentation for non current TBS students.
IGCSE Options, Careers and university fair (Wednesday 19th February)
All students will be involved in a future pathways and career half-day as part of our PSHE (Living in the wider world) curriculum. For Year 9 – 13 this will include visiting our popular careers carousel and university fair that we are hosting that day, as careers and university workshops.
Year 9 parents will also be invited to a IGCSE options Parent Information Session as part of this day, where Ms Williams (Secondary Assistant Head Academic) will explain the process of choosing your IGCSE subjects – for many, students this is the first real choice they get in the subjects they study at school and starts the process of shaping their future study and career pathways when the graduate from TBS.
Previous careers carousel sessions have greatly benefited from parents who have offered to come and share their experiences with our students (indeed we cannot run this event without volunteers from the wider TBS community). Head of Key Stage 5 and University Guidance Counsellor, Ms Sheldon will be writing to you separately to ask for your support in this event, and the potential for your companies to offer work experience placements to our older students – which are so valuable in supporting students’ university applications in Year 13 . Calling for your support – Careers Event & Work Experience Placements. Here is a direct link to the Careers event and work experience form which can also be linked through the letter.
