What an exciting week we have had in the Primary & Early Years section! It has been an absolute pleasure to see so much enthusiasm from our students this week as we held our student leadership elections and interviews. The children approached the process with real thought and maturity, and it was wonderful to see so many of them putting themselves forward and championing one another along the way. We look forward to sharing the outcomes with you in next week’s newsletter!
Co-Curricular Activities
There is always plenty happening beyond the classroom in Primary! Our Co-Curricular Activities give students the opportunity to explore new interests, develop their skills, be creative and, most importantly, have fun together. Here is a little glimpse of what some of our Primary Co-Curricular Activities have been getting up to.
Board Games
There has been a fantastic buzz in Board Games group over the past few weeks! It has been wonderful to see our pupils settling in, making new friends and enjoying some friendly competition. From planning clever moves in chess and racing through Snakes and Ladders to tackling puzzles together, each session has offered opportunities to think strategically, solve problems and work collaboratively. Alongside the fun, pupils are developing confidence, patience and good sportspersonship as they learn to take turns, play fairly and celebrate one another’s successes.

Eco Ambassadors
Our Eco Ambassadors have had a fantastic start! In one of our early sessions, we met with the Senior Eco Ambassadors to learn more about the important work they do to help make TBS a more environmentally friendly school. Working together, we took part in an Eco Scavenger Hunt, exploring the school and looking for examples of how TBS is already an Eco Winner. In another session, the Eco Ambassadors explored how we can reuse everyday materials rather than throwing them away, using a range of recycled and unwanted materials to create their own junk models and thinking creatively about how objects could be given a new purpose. This encouraged the children to consider the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials and making more environmentally friendly choices.

Strategic Playing Cards
We have had fun learning that playing card games does far more than pass the time, it’s a workout for the brain and a masterclass in getting along with others. Games we have played like Snap! and Speed build quick decision-making, focus and sharp reflexes under pressure. At the same time, sitting down at a table with peers teaches patience, turn-taking, fair play, and how to win (and lose) graciously. Card games also build strategic thinking in a low-pressure, social setting, making this activity a simple but powerful tool for developing both cognitive and social-emotional skills.
Gymnastics
Look at some of our brilliant gymnasts in action!

Continuous Provision
Over the past few weeks, the children have thoroughly enjoyed unwinding at our Continuous Provision activity after a busy day of learning. It provides a vital space for them to self-regulate through child-led, play-based activities, giving them the freedom to choose exactly how they want to recharge. It has been wonderful to watch friends bond as they speed around on the bikes, express their creativity through colouring, and immerse themselves in tactile play in the sand.

Dance troupe
Our Year 3–6 Dance troupe has had a fantastic start! The children have been enjoying learning new routines, playing dance games and developing their creativity and confidence. In one session, they used the letters in their names as inspiration to create their own movement sequences before sharing them with others. It has been lovely to see the different year groups working together, encouraging one another and bringing so much energy to each session.

Crafting
The past few weeks have been fantastic in our Craft activity! Students had lots of fun making and decorating their very own paper bags. They enjoyed folding, cutting, glueing, and adding their own creative ideas to their designs. This hands-on activity helped develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity, concentration and confidence. They also learned to follow instructions, use materials safely, and work patiently and independently while having fun and expressing themselves through craft.

Community Ambassadors
Our Community Ambassadors welcomed 20 Grade 3 students from Mary Ward School for our first session, themed “Create, Connect and Discover Together.” The children enjoyed getting to know one another through fun Name Toss and Find Someone Who… Bingo activities. They also created friendship badges featuring their names in both English and Nepali नेपाली, celebrating friendship, language and cultural connection. It was a wonderful start to building new friendships and learning together!

Crafty Creators
Our Crafty Creators had a wonderful time over the past few weeks. The children enjoyed a fun and creative time making different craft projects, using colourful paper, paints, glue and other materials to create their own craft work. The activity encouraged their creativity, imagination and fine motor skills while allowing them to express themselves through art and craft.

Playdough Animation
In our Playdough Animation activity, children explored the exciting world of stop-motion animation. They learned what stop-motion animation is and how to use Play-Dough to create simple characters and objects. Working in groups, they created short practice animations and developed their own stories based on objects of interest to them. Using a stop-motion animation app, they brought their creations to life and shared their stories and animations with the group. The session encouraged creativity, teamwork, storytelling and digital skills.

Tool Troop
We are delighted to have started our new Co-Curricular Activity, Tool Troop, with great enthusiasm! The children have been eagerly developing their woodworking skills and learning how to use tools safely and confidently. We will focus on building a range of practical skills before applying our newly learnt techniques to exciting projects. So far, we have been practising our sanding skills, learning how to sand wood carefully to create a smooth finish, and we are excited to begin our first project: creating our very own wooden trees!

Nepali Writing
The Nepali Writing Association aims to encourage students to develop a love for Nepali language and writing while providing them with opportunities to express their thoughts, ideas and creativity. Through various writing activities, students build confidence, improve their vocabulary and communication skills, and explore different forms of creative writing. The Association also promotes collaboration, encourages students to learn from one another, and helps them appreciate the richness and beauty of the Nepali language.
Basic French
The Basic French sessions are a fun and friendly space where children enjoy discovering the French language. Through games, songs, colouring and other creative activities, they learn new French words and build their confidence in using them. Each session provides opportunities to learn, play and have fun while developing their French. In one of our recent sessions, we got off to a great start by exploring colours in French through fun and interactive games, making learning new vocabulary enjoyable and memorable.

Kathmandu 1st Cub Scouts
We focused on nature collage, with the theme of nature and creativity. The activity began with a short discussion about nature and why it is important for Scouts to care for the environment. The Scouts then went outside to collect safe, dry natural materials such as leaves, twigs and flowers. After looking at some examples of simple nature collages, each Scout created their own artwork using the materials they had collected. They were encouraged to make pictures of animals, trees, landscapes, flowers or Scout symbols, and could decorate their collages with pencils or markers. At the end of the activity, each group presented their artwork and shared their ideas with the others.

Little Yetis
Over the past two weeks at Little Yetis, we have been busy discovering the wonderful worlds of Minibeasts and Nursery Rhymes!
Last week, we discovered the fascinating world of minibeasts. We enjoyed singing Incy Wincy Spider and sharing The Very Hungry Caterpillar, as well as taking part in lots of hands-on activities. The children searched for hidden worms in squishy cornflour “mud”, used tweezers to rescue hidden minibeasts and spent time investigating our Minibeast Investigation Station. We also went on a minibeast hunt around the setting, looking carefully to see what we could discover.
This week, we have been enjoying some favourite Nursery Rhymes, including Five Little Ducks, Hey Diddle Diddle, Incy Wincy Spider and Hickory Dickory Dock. The children have loved joining in with familiar words and actions, singing together and taking part in activities inspired by our favourite rhymes.
It has been a busy couple of weeks filled with singing, searching, discovering and lots of fun! Next week, we will be discovering the world of farm animals through songs, stories and hands-on activities.

Leading Linguists fundraiser
A huge thank you to everyone in Primary who came along to the Leading Linguists fundraiser last Friday. It was a fantastic and successful event, celebrating the richness of languages while raising funds for Flood Relief.
A special well done to our Primary Leading Linguists, Ms Feng’s Year 9 Mandarin students, and everyone else who helped to organise and bring the event together. Your enthusiasm and hard work made the event such a success!
