We have now managed to connect the school phone system to reach Ms. Tamrakar, our front desk officer remotely. Therefore, you may call the usual school phone numbers for any queries you have or assistance you may need and Ms. Tamrakar will be able to guide you further. The phone numbers are active during the school hours i.e. 7:45am to 4:30pm (3:30pm on Fridays). 

Over the last three weeks we have been completing our application and selection process for Key Stage 5 Prefects. 28 students from Year 11 and 12 applied for these roles and we were truly amazed by the dedication and passion these students demonstrated. Every student who applied for these roles should be proud of their efforts and we want to thank each and every one of them for pursuing this opportunity.

After a rigorous application process we are thoroughly delighted to be announcing our new Prefect team for the coming academic year. 

We are very excited to observe the positive impact this team has on our school community in the coming year.

After the half-term break we will be conducting our application processes for Key Stage 4 Ambassadors and Key Stage 3 Aspiring Leaders. These students will form as part of the extended student leadership team and support our Key Stage 5 Prefects in all of their pursuits. This will be a great opportunity for our younger students to develop their leadership skills and contribute toward positive change within our school community.

This week’s spotlight focuses on A level media studies. Media studies is all about audiences, so this week’s spotlight will also be more interactive than usual. Look for the challenges below to get involved! 

Our first set of students are about to complete the A level, so this is also a perfect time to celebrate some of the creativity they have shown over the last two years despite the challenges of learning a very practical subject online. 

Analysing TV: 

Our year 12 students study TV drama as part of their AS course and have produced some fantastic essays exploring the way that directors use technical and symbolic codes. 

Recently, as part of revision, students co-constructed notes on a clip from the US drama ‘House of Cards’, sharing their ideas about how the director has made use of cinematography, sound, editing and symbolism to create meaning.

Many of us might be spending longer watching Netflix at the moment than we’d like to admit, so why not try your hand at a TV drama analysis of your own.

‘Media is the Study of Now’

It is often said that if history is the study of the past, then media is the study of now. Students are encouraged to explore changes in the media which are happening around them and to bring their own understanding into debates in the classroom.

The last year has been an interesting time for Year 12 to study the film industry, which like so many things is undergoing great changes as a result of the pandemic. 

In this video, our students answer the question: How will the pandemic change film?

What do YOU think might happen to film in the future? Will we still all go to cinemas on opening weekend to see the latest blockbuster? Will streaming services put theatres out of business?

Year 1 have been enjoying reading The Snail and the Whale, they were inspired to write their own versions.

Year 2 took their toys on a world tour this week. Can you guess where their toys went on holiday?

Thank you to those parents who have already confirmed that this will be the last term for your child/children at TBS. 

 In line with school policy, we are providing all parents with the final date that you need to provide the school with your official notice of withdrawal if this will be the last term for your child/children at TBS. The due date for the official notice of withdrawal is  Wednesday 2nd June 2021.  

 Please, therefore, inform Ms. Bajracharya (admissions@tbs.edu.np) in the Admissions Office, if you wish to withdraw your child from TBS by Wednesday 2nd June 2021.  

 In line with school policy, failure to give such notice will result in the security deposit being retained in full.  

 Parents shall receive a Clearance Form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of this term. Failure to submit the form or returning all school resources in good order will partially affect the refund of the security deposit (parents will always be notified in such instances).
