Careers Panels & Carousel
By: Luveena (Year 9) and Shajonee (Year 9)
As our Year 9 students begin their process of choosing their GCSE’s for the next 2 years, on Wednesday the 25th of February, many guest speakers from different fields were invited to guide them with this selection process. We had speakers come from creative industries, business and management industries and health industries, for example: fashion designers, writers, senior project coordinator, cardiovascular surgeon, and Actuarial Society Nepal.
All these guest speakers from different industries and all around the world had come in to spark a bit of inspiration from their own journey into our Year 9 students. This experience was both delightful and a first for many. All the students were given a sheet to write what they learnt and ask questions about their life, their journey, their interests and what led them to choose that career.
This event is particularly useful, as students can get a clear picture of the jobs they are considering pursuing in the future, and the necessary steps they must take to get there. Some students even discovered jobs they did not know existed, learnt more about markets, further education, and their possible choices for GCSE/A levels.
In conclusion, this event was immensely insightful to the students, and now they are considering their picks for subjects with more information from the people who have already reached the place they wanted to be. Wishing all the students the best of luck and a big thank you to all of the people that came to the Careers Fair to talk to the children.

Visit of Sam Sutherland
Our creative students had a rare opportunity to meet a professional actress this week. Sam Sutherland, sister of primary teacher Mr Sutherland, gave a lunch time workshop yesterday on what life is really like working in the entertainment industry and how to take your first steps into a career as a professional actor.
NISSA Sports Fixtures
By Bibhushan Shrestha (Year 11)

This week was full of tension and excitement as our TBS NISSA Boys Basketball and Girls football team played against KISC and Premier this week. In the first match, TBS was against KISC on the 23rd when the game was at our school. In basketball, both teams were both scoring points left and right, constantly battling against each other for the title. They had some ups and downs but in the end they won the game 49-41 with laughter and cheer all throughout the court. In football, the girls played with skill and confidence, constantly passing and weaving through the opposition throughout the match, which led to their ultimate victory of 4-2 against KISC.

Their next opponent was Premier International School, where the game was away rather than at home and later within the week. In basketball, the boys unfortunately finished the week of matches with an unexpected loss, despite this, they played with confidence, skill, and walked out with their heads high, ready for the games ahead in the league. On the other hand, the Girls Football team dominated on the pitch with speed and tactics, walking out of the game with great vibes and a 5-2 win against Premier.
U13 basketball
On Tuesday afternoon we welcomed teams from Little Wonders School for some friendly basketball matches as part of our U13 FOBISIA Games preparations. Whilst stormy weather moved the games into the covered court the teams were still able to enjoy playing in their first competitive matches together.

The girls had a very close game and showed some promising play, creating lots of shooting opportunities by passing the ball around well. They lost by just one point but enjoyed the chance to play and learnt a lot from the experience.
The boys showed a lot of energy and skill in their match with some great attacking play with drives into the basket resulting in a number of well executed lay-ups. Defensively they were also very strong despite playing against some taller opponents. Overall a great performance from the boys team who won the game 10-5.
Many thanks to Mr Malla for all the effort that has gone into coaching the teams thus far and to Ms Gurung for coordinating the fixture so that our teams could enjoy this valuable experience.

Community Spelling Bee Spells Success
By Bibhushan Shrestha
On the last day of school before half term break, our community partner school student representatives hosted an in-school ‘spelling bee’ run by students which included our 5 community partner schools (Shree-tikka, Madan Smarak, Gueshwori, Mahendra and Bal Bikash). This spelling bee was an excellent example of students showing leadership and organisation skills amongst their peers and other schools, and acting as role models for future students who were to join community partners.
The event started off at 1pm when our students gave a briefing about what would happen in the spelling bee in both English and Nepali. After that, the students engaged in hosting the 2 spelling bee rounds with each one lasting 45 minutes each. This is when some of the students moderated the rooms whilst others judged and regulated the students from our community partner schools.
This was a fun and engaging time for the students from all the schools as they got to participate in this event, either by competing against or monitoring others. To finish it off, the final round was hosted in the hall where all the students watched and observed whilst the top spellers competed against each other for the title. Each student was provided with a participation certificate, and the top three students were rewarded with designated medals we had designed. This day was well attended by our community partner schools and our community partner students who helped organise the event. Thank you to those who participated in aiding with this event.

A sprinkle of Chinese culture and tradition dust on TBS
By Avigya Chamling
On Tuesday the 24th of February the annual Chinese Temple fair occurred to celebrate Lunar New Year, which TBS is proud to say proved to be a massive success!

The fair was accessible to students from Year 3 to 13 and consisted of both games and food stalls which all carried Chinese historical cultural significance in them. The fair overall lasted from 11:45 to 13:35, Primary having the start of the fair to 12:40 to enjoy it with there being specific time periods in that duration for each year group in Primary which helped avoid crowding and staggering. Secondary had from 12:40 until 13:35 to enjoy the fair there unlike Primary having no specific time period for each year in secondary and anyone from any year group in secondary could come during that time. Food stalls sold steamed chicken and vegetarian dumplings, coca cola wings, strawberry tanghulu and lemonade and for primary vegetarian dumplings were available. Game stalls included Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, busy bobbing bees where you wear a bee headband with a magnet dangling from it and try to get a group of magnets from one place to another. Touhu where you have to throw a group of arrows from one place to a slim and tall box. Finally jianzi which is a feathery weighted shuttlecock that you have to kick with your inner foot sole and try to get as many reps as you can. The event was hosted in the Secondary court area near the Secondary astro and outside the Mandarin Chinese rooms with stalls happening all around and some also in the Chinese classroom. It was also heavily decorated with traditional ornaments and decorations Ms Feng specially got from China for the fair. As well as that, the event was mainly run by Year 6 students, supported by Year 7 and Year 8 students who take Chinese and their friends. It was planned and organised by Year 10 and Year 11 students who take Chinese, the Chinese Club, and the Leading Linguists, and was facilitated by Ms Fallon and Ms Feng. Alongside, the students who helped plan the fair will also be running stalls. Sanghamitta from Year 7 reported “I really enjoyed it and also learned something new about Chinese culture” and Vedanshee from Year 8 reported that, “It was super fun!” Overall every student and staff left the event with a big smile and like they have learned something they did not already know.
However, we did not just leave a positive mark on the students and staff, we also raised around 14,950 Rupees from it which we plan to donate to our community partners and use as funding for future school events. We hope to continue out the brilliant results next year and TBS wishes you a heartily happy Chinese new year! “Giddy up into the Year of the Horse!”- Ms Xiaohong Feng.World Book Day
This year, World Book Day in Secondary was celebrated by students dressing-up as literary characters, with some excellent efforts on display. The day began with a short book quiz in mentor time, a ‘recommended books’ display especially for the day was set-up in the library, and students also submitted their entries to the school’s writing competition. The overall winner was Avigya Chamling, with honorable mentions going to Juhi Shrestha, Aadvik Luhar and Sachi Kanda. These students should come to collect their certificates and prizes from the library on Tuesday morning from Mr Johnston and Ms Chitrakar.

Can you guess the book title that the Secondary Leadership Team chose?
Mother Tongue Day
Thanks to our Leading Linguists who led our assembly on Tuesday marking “mother tongue day” and celebrating the massive range of mother tongue languages spoken by TBS students
