Enrichment week highlights
School play – Dead Dog in a Suitcase
I cannot do justice to the superlative heights this production reached. Such a shame that this show ran for one day only, although the cast and crew showed amazing stamina to get through four full performances in an 8 hour period. If this was a Broadway or West End show it would be described as the hottest ticket in town, superb, amazing cast, amazing costumes, amazing props and amazing choreography. If this was a Broadway or West End show you would happily pay more than 150 NPs for your ticket and even at top dollar prices you would feel you had spent your money wisely. Well done to Ms Mountjoy and all the production team and above all the cast for giving us an evening’s entertainment that will live long in the memory. Watch out for next year’s production and reserve your ticket now!
Robotics – driverless technology comes to TBS
Students used their DT skills to design and build their vehicle. They had to learn new skills such as soldering to connect their robot car to the on board processor and then programme the car to respond to remote instructions and automatically by using its sensors to navigate a short course.
Music video in a week
Students from across Y6 to Y12 managed to record their own version of a song, including all instrumentals, film and edit an original music video in less than a week. We are particularly impressed by the ways in which they have implemented their learning around music video conventions and shot types to create professional looking products. Well done Music Video team! Here are a couple of their videos for your enjoyment: TV (Pranava, Saaivi, Kashvi & Avani)- look out for the pool action match in this one and Risk (Shrishti, Victoria, Saanvi, Amata, Sanna).

Photography
Our student photographers caught some excellent moments this past week! Starting with basic skills in choosing shutter speed, ISO-, and aperture, based on observations. Using their newly acquired skills, the students caught new perspectives on familiar things in and around the site.
On the second day, we walked to Patan for street photography where students had to use quick reflexes to capture quickly passing moments. The third day was a change of pace at the Pharping monastery, where students were able to take things slower and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Honourable mentions to a few of our photographers who were experimental with their shots and editing techniques: Amitayush (Y11), Mio (Y12), and Amber (Y12).
Lego Stop Motion
Pick a famous film and use your Lego to make an animated version and a film trailer.
You can watch our version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets here
Model United Nations
Students took on the role of the United Nations Environment Programme, with Nepal, New Zealand, Norway, Germany, Thailand and the Maldives debating and finding common ground on the complicated issue of balancing economic growth and environmental protection in tourism.
Zonta
The Zonta Team have been working throughout the week on a variety of community led projects! They began the week with the completion of a new library for Guheshwori School. This is a project that has been ongoing for a few months now and the students have worked extremely hard sanding, painting and rearranging the library for the pupils. We plan to complete this at the start of the academic year with lots of new books provided by TBS to empower these young people! The following day started with a focus on our wellbeing through yoga run by Ms Goldie, the students felt relaxed and ready for a busy day of planning a breast cancer awareness campaign for October. That afternoon, they met two inspiring representatives of Cancer Care Nepal. They came in and delivered a presentation tailored to the Zonta club with lots of ideas for October to ensure it is tailored to a Nepali context. On Wednesday the Zonta club team had a visit from two of our community schools, Guheshwori and Life Vision Academy. The students from these two schools received menstrual training which was planned and delivered by Zonta Club, they then each received a pouch of reusable pads to help them feel empowered! After all this, TBS had a visit from some professional MMA athletes to deliver self-defence training! In the training, the group all learned how to protect ourselves and escape from some dangerous situations! They left feeling strong and ready to take on life’s challenges. It has been a week full of empowerment and community led development.

Living Well
This week, TBS Living Well group has been exposed to a holistic view of healthy living. The students have been very physically active throughout the week, trying out some new or unconventional physical activities alongside the more traditional. Rock climbing was a great opportunity for them to combine strength and mobility before finding out just how tiring trampolining can be at Jump. The students then had a crash course in strength & conditioning, callisthenics and mobility at The Pump Gym.
Alongside the physical elements of health, they have also had sessions on diet and yoga in order to look at the bigger picture of fitness. Through this, they now better understand the dynamics of living well and how many parts of our lifestyles have an impact on our wellbeing.
It was then their turn to be the teachers and run some organised games and competitions for our primary students. Using their knowledge of fitness, sport and organisation they staged successful frisbee, football, dodgeball and tag tournaments where they found out just how hard it can be to organise a group of children! The group have had a great experience across the week and will hopefully now take the knowledge and skills they have gained forward in their own lifestyles.
TBS pottery Throwdown
The TBS Pottery Throwdown made at triumphant return for another enrichment week
This year, our prospective potters undertook a series of cultural visits to Patan, Thimi and Bhaktapur and have been busy in the studio developing their skills; wheel forming, throwing and trimming under the tuition of teachers and artisans.
This year’s handbuilding challenge was inspired by the theme Mythical Creatures, the quality of the build and artistic challenge was very high this year. The 5c were awarded, alongside best design and this year overall winners were Pema (Y8) and Drukmo (Y9).
Community Art Project
TBS students used their creativity to plan design and draw murals to brighten up our community partner DNC centre.
Before After
Year 11 Recycling Project
The Year 11 students, led by Dia Lohia, organised the collection of all their revision papers and donated them to Doko recycling. Over 8 large bags of paper were collected so Year 11 have clearly been working very hard on their exam practice! It bodes well for results day.
