The whole school came together for an unforgettable musical performance when the British Gurkhas Nepal (BGN) Band visited our campus. From our youngest Little Yetis right through to Year 13 students, everyone gathered to enjoy the spectacular show. The talented musicians treated us to a wonderful variety of songs that had something for everyone. The setlist included the marching song, Ho Nepal, alongside modern crowd-pleasers that had students singing along, including the chart-topping Apt and the energetic K-P Demon Hunters’ hit, ‘Golden’. It was a brilliant celebration of both our Nepali heritage and contemporary music culture, and a morning that brought our whole school together in appreciation of the BGN Band’s incredible talent and dedication to their craft.

Creative & Performing Arts Parent Information Session: Nurturing Creative Minds

We were excited to host parents in our vibrant Art Studio for an inspiring morning exploring the Creative and Performing Arts curriculum at TBS. Mr. Sands led an engaging session highlighting how studying the creative and performing arts goes far beyond learning techniques – it’s about educating, communicating, and empowering students to learn more about themselves, their community, and their place in the world.

Educating the Whole Child

Mr. Sands emphasised that participation in the Creative and Performing Arts provides a unique and transferable learning experience essential to the holistic development of students. Through their creative pursuits, students build resilience, develop intellectual curiosity, foster compassion by seeing the world through different perspectives, and cultivate creativity, a skill increasingly valued in all areas of life and work.

Support at School and Home

Parents learned about our comprehensive support system, from specialist teaching and dedicated studio spaces to performance opportunities and enrichment activities. Mr. Sands also shared valuable advice on nurturing creative development at home, whether through visiting galleries and performances, encouraging creative projects, or simply providing a space where experimentation and self expression are celebrated. The Art Studio setting allowed parents to view and appreciate the diverse, impressive work our students have created.

Creative Futures

Mr. Sands highlighted the remarkable career opportunities that Creative and Performing Arts can lead to, from traditional art and design careers to architecture, marketing, film, therapy, and education. He showcased the impressive diversity of university places secured by last year’s Year 13 cohort, demonstrating that creative skills open doors across numerous disciplines and industries.

Our thanks go to Mr. Sands for such an enlightening session highlighting how the Creative and Performing Arts truly play a vital role in developing well rounded, confident young people ready to make their mark on the world.

Year 9 Rokpa Trip

By Meekha Shrestha

On the 21st and 22 January, students in Year 9 went on a field trip to the Rokpa Foundation in Boudha. Rokpa is an organization that supports homeless children, supplies them with education, food and shelter until they enter adulthood, provides assistance to women and helps them learn skills like sewing and handicrafts so that they can start their own businesses and teach their children and families how to do the same. It also operates as a guesthouse and restaurant, although it is non profit, and all funds go into furthering the initial charitable goals of the organization.

The day started off with the students being put into different groups and conducting a survey with tourists and locals about how they feel about Boudha, their purpose of visit, and other factors. Along with this, the students had to complete a bi-polar survey on three different areas in Boudha, this was based on their own observations of the area. This made up the morning activities for the day.

They returned to Rokpa, and had a guided tour which was led by some of the children that had been raised in Rokpa itself, and had opted to stay and continue to help out the foundation. The students saw the rooms, kitchen and even had fun playing with the children there, embracing the community we have built with Rokpa over the years.

Afterwards, students served in the soup kitchen, which is another movement led by Rokpa in which underprivileged people are welcome to come and be served food. Students gave out the food, each taking on different responsibilities and managed to work effectively as a team. Even with some language barriers present, students were still able to cater to the needs of the people present.

Afterwards, the students ate lunch in the restaurant in Rokpa, where the food and drinks were sourced by the people working in the Rokpa guesthouse. It was reportedly phenomenal.

Lastly, the second part of the guided tour was conducted, which was where the students got to see the sewing and handicraft workshops, meet other people involved in the foundation, and learnt about the challenges, triumphs and history of Rokpa. After some hasty notetaking, students visited the gift shop and some bought little souvenirs to keep or give others.

Overall, the trip was an extraordinary experience for the students of Year 9, not only for educational purposes, but giving them a broader understanding of the country they live in, and the good that they can accomplish if they put their minds into it.

Lincoln Football and Basketball Tournament

We interviewed Adiba, a star player for the girls’ football team

The girls’ football team had an intense day of matches starting with nervousness from their first game with practice skill sessions on Monday and matches on Thursday. The first match was challenging but the girls’ determination pushed through the whole competition.

The scores were close all throughout the tournament; the first match against Lincoln ended in a goalless draw 0-0, while TBS managed a close victory against KISC. Throughout the final game the score was 0-0, but in the last 7 seconds of extra time, the other team scored and won the game 1-0. The star player throughout the games was Anaya in Year 10, as she was a key player in crucial moments, and kept trying to do the best of her capabilities.

Next we interviewed Abdul, the captain of the boys’ Basketball team.

The boys were very excited about their games because this was their best team, but they felt nervous about the game against TIA – last year’s champions. The first game they played was against Swasthri school; TBS won comfortably with a score of 36-18 but the second game was where the challenge began. TBS were facing TIA where the score ended on 25-26 in a close battle where every point mattered. The most important person in the team throughout the tournament was Pratham who scored important points when needed.

Overall, it was a good day and the results were strong for TBS. The students showed determination to push their limits, while the teachers helped them feel more confident and motivated.

This learning proved a great preparation for Thursday night’s GEMS fixtures, which saw both TBS teams take victory.

Parent Information Session- Reading in EYFS

This week, we held a phonics workshop, which provided an overview of how we teach reading in Early Years. Parents learnt that we use phonics to teach the children to read and write. Phonics helps children read by blending sounds to decode words and write by segmenting them. Ms. Pathak and Ms. Palmer modelled different sounds and gave parents ideas to support children when they are beginning to blend and segment sounds. They also gave parents lots of suggestions about how to spark a love for reading at home. To help develop our home-school reading partnership further, we would like to invite EYFS parents to come and read a story next week as part of our Story Telling Week celebrations. Please contact Ms. Palmer or Ms. Pathak if you would like to volunteer!

Parent Information Session on Maths

Maths Curriculum Parent Information Session: Building Strong Foundations Together

We were delighted to welcome so many parents to our recent Maths Curriculum Information Session, where Ms. Harris, brilliantly supported by some of our enthusiastic young mathematicians, shared valuable insights into how we teach mathematics at TBS.

Our Approach to Maths

Ms. Harris explained how we build strong foundations through number sense, place value, and basic operations, ensuring every child develops both fluency and deep conceptual understanding. Parents learned that maths at TBS is about fostering genuine mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills, not just memorising procedures.

The Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) Approach

A key focus was our use of the CPA approach, where children first explore ideas using physical objects (concrete), then move to visual representations (pictorial), before working with abstract symbols. Our student volunteers gave wonderful demonstrations, showing how this progression ensures children truly understand what they’re doing and why.

Resources and Growth Mindset

Parents had the opportunity to see the manipulatives and resources we use daily, from place value counters to fraction walls. The children enthusiastically explained how these tools support their learning. We also discussed cultivating a growth mindset, exploring how phrases like, “I can’t do this yet” can transform a child’s relationship with maths and help them achieve their full potential.

Supporting Learning at Home

Ms. Harris shared practical ways parents can help at home, including incorporating maths into everyday activities like cooking and shopping, practising times tables in fun ways, and encouraging children to explain their mathematical thinking.

We’re grateful to Ms. Harris and our fantastic student presenters for such an informative evening. If you have questions about our maths curriculum, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Special Visitors to Year 1

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome some very special visitors to our classroom this week to enhance our learning journey on the topic of Creators and Communicators”.

Ms. Kydd, our school councillor, joined us to explore the fascinating world of emotional communication. She guided the children through understanding how we express ourselves – not just with words, but through our facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice. The children were captivated as they learned to recognise different emotions and discovered how powerful nonverbal communication can be in sharing how we feel with others.

We were equally delighted when Ms. Smith, our inclusion manager and speech and language therapist, visited to introduce the children to Makaton, a wonderful and inclusive communication tool that combines signs, symbols, and speech. The children were immediately engaged as Ms. Smith demonstrated simple signs and encouraged everyone to join in. They practiced signing familiar words and phrases, clearly showing their enjoyment as they communicated with their hands as well as their voices. It was wonderful to see how quickly they picked up this new skill and how enthusiastic they were about using it.

Throughout both sessions, the children showed tremendous curiosity and enthusiasm. They really enjoyed exploring these new and exciting ways of expressing themselves, and it was wonderful to see them discover that communication comes in many different forms. These experiences have enriched their understanding of how we share our thoughts, feelings, and ideas with the world around us!

Year 6 Homelearning

Since returning from the Winter holidays, Year 6 students have begun receiving regular home learning tasks to help them develop the independence and routines they will need as they prepare for Secondary school. They have approached these new expectations with a fantastic attitude, showing responsibility, organisation and real pride in their work. We have already been impressed by the brilliant pieces they have produced, including their detailed fact files on a chosen ancient civilisation linked to our current IPC topic, 900 CE. These fact files demonstrated thoughtful research, clear presentation and a growing confidence in explaining key ideas.

Little Yetis

This week in Little Yetis, our children enjoyed exploring the theme of Community Helpers through a range of hands-on, imaginative activities. In our Small World Tray, children used emergency vehicles and community helper figures to create their own scenarios, building roads and structures while developing language, collaboration, and early problem-solving skills.

Our First Aid Animal Station encouraged gentle care and empathy, as children practised wrapping bandages and looking after their teddies, supporting early understanding of health, well-being, and kindness towards others.

For Engine Mark Making, children rolled cars and wheels through red paint to create exciting tracks and patterns, strengthening fine motor skills and early mark-making in a fun, sensory way.

We were also delighted that some of our Little Yetis joined others to watch a special presentation by the Brigade of Gurkhas Band, which was a wonderful opportunity to experience music, community, and shared celebration together.

Thank you to the parents who have already confirmed that their child/children will be leaving TBS at the end of the term on Friday, 3rd April 2026. We would like to stress that providing adequate and timely notice is essential. Formal notice is a mandatory requirement, helps parents avoid potential financial penalties, enables the timely refund of security deposits, and allows the school to plan effectively for the upcoming term.

Please be reminded that the final deadline for submitting a formal notice of withdrawal is Wednesday, 11th March 2026. Notice must be provided either by email or by a written letter addressed to Ms Manisha Bajracharya, Admissions Office.

Upon receipt of the withdrawal notice, parents will be issued a clearance form, which must be completed closer to the end of the term to finalise the withdrawal process. Parents who require school documents or references for the new school should inform Ms Bajracharya in the Admissions Office as early as possible.

Kindly note that late submission or failure to provide notice, as well as not completing the clearance process or returning school resources, may result in partial or full forfeiture of the security deposit. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering strictly to these requirements.
