Faculty Parent Information Session: Creative and Performing Arts

“Creative thinking is a crucial skill to navigate an increasingly complex world.”
World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025
Head of the Creative and Performing Arts Faculty, Mr Sands, led this week’s secondary faculty PIS. The session started with pàrents being faced with a block of clay and asked to create a haptic sculpture. As you can see, there is some impressive creative talent in the TBS parent community!
He then gave us a virtual tour of the impressive facilities we have at TBS – in Art, Drama, Music, Photography, DT and Media Studies, before explaining the critical thinking teaching model used across the faculty. He closed by emphasising how much creativity is valued in the ever changing 21st century work environment and looked at some of the careers creative subjects may lead towards.

Humanities Trip to Pokhara
As reported last week, Year 8 had an amazing week of learning away from the classroom during their Humanities trip to Pokhara. They showed their highlights video in this week’s whole Secondary assembly. If you want to see what they really got up to in Pokhara, I invite you to watch the video linked here.

Lunar New Year Assembly
To celebrate Lunar New Year at TBS, the Leading Linguists team organized an amazing assembly for all secondary school students on Tuesday. The assembly featured a brief yet insightful overview of Chinese Lunar New Year traditions, presented by Sahas. Victoria and Upasana presented the story of the Chinese Zodiac Animals and the Great Race to life with an animation, while Mateo hosted an exciting quiz that tested students on what they had learned during the assembly. During Lunchtime, a variety of stalls were set up outside the languages department. Both students and teachers participated in games such as kicking a Feather Disk, as well as Character Writing, and Chopstick Challenges, giving them a chance to not only house points and White Rabbit but also allowing them to experience the rich culture of the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival!
World Scholar’s Cup
The World Scholar’s Cup year starts this weekend with the Junior teams in action on Saturday and the Senior Teams competing on Sunday. We look forward to many of our teams qualifying for the Doha Global Round later in the year.
Lincoln Maths
Not only do we have four junior teams in the World Scholar’s Cup on Saturday but TBS also has four teams in the Lincoln Maths competition also this Saturday. Good luck to all those representing the school in academic competitions this weekend.
Sports Reports
Senior Girls Football
The team showed outstanding teamwork and determination in the recent tournament, securing an impressive second place. We have faced many challenges within the team, however, we have managed to overcome them together by building coordination, strategic gameplay, and unwavering sportsmanship which was shown on Saturday. In the first round, we overcame KISC by 2-0, leading us to a semi-final against the hosts Lincoln. In a nail-biting close encounter, TBS managed a 1-0 victory. Despite a closely fought final match, where the team gave their all, we fell just short of first place going down 3-2 to Kathmandu Kickers. This achievement not only brings immense pride to the team but also sets a strong foundation for the rest of the season. This tournament has given us a solid root to help us perfect our skills for the upcoming season we all have been waiting for

Senior Boys Basketball
On Saturday 25th January, TBS boys basketball team participated in the Lincoln tournament along with 5 other schools including KISC, TIA, Swotishree and Saint Xavier. Our first game was against TIA, a young team with amazing talent. Although we started off with a strong lead, TIA took the lead and retained it. The game ended 33-25.
In our following game, motivated by our disappointing loss, TBS was off to a strong start yet again but we kept our heads in the game. In the final 5 minutes of the game, KISC’s point guard took over and made 6 out of his 7 three-pointer attempts, closing the lead massively. But TBS held on strong, resulting in an eventual score of 45-38 win for us.
Finally in the 3rd/4th place playoff, we faced Saint Xavier who had been supporting us throughout the tournament so far. Although TBS came out with a commanding win, the game was still really enjoyable as there were some very impressive shots going in.
Overall the tournament was really fun and an amazing opportunity for our team to realise what we were lacking and what our strong points were. We are looking forward to the NISSA season and hope to see our TBS community there to support.
Finally a massive thank you to our coaches (Mr. Malla & Mr.Portsmouth) who took their Saturday to make this possible for us, Mr.Draper and Ms.Watt for coming along to support and even Mr.Dawson did so alongside his parenting duties.

U13’s Basketball friendlies vs KISC

On Tuesday afternoon both our boys and girls U13’s FOBISIA teams were able to get some valuable experience in competition conditions when they took on visiting teams from one of our NISSA and cross town rivals KISC. Both teams were able to gain valuable experience in performing under the pressure of competition, something that no amount of training can replicate. Whilst KISC came out victorious in both matches, there were still many positive takeaways for both teams with areas of strength highlighted, as well as identifying areas to focus on in the final weeks of preparation before the teams departure for Thailand. It was wonderful to see so many students, staff and parents down supporting the teams. By the time the girls team game finished, it was standing room only out on the back court for the end of the boys game, where all could enjoy and appreciate the impressive shooting that was on display.
