Year 5 have been revelling in their opportunities to access the campus this week, with the chance to collaborate and work together as well as to enjoy one another’s company. Starting a brand new IPC topic all about migration, ‘Moving People’, they created posters ‘selling’ their home countries as a destination to visit. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate how truly international we are, with various national foods, monuments and mountains being compared closely! 

Year 5 has also started a new book, ‘The Matchbox Diary’, which tells the story of an Italian family moving to America a century ago. Our children have been re-igniting their dialogic talk skills, fiercely debating what might or might not happen in the story!

Early Years students had their first music lessons on campus and they had the chance to discover and play a lot of new musical instruments! They learned how to direct an orchestra, how to be good musicians, express their emotions through music and they even met Maestro, the famous Owl Conductor that will give them many musical challenges over the weeks! 

KS1 and KS2 had their music sessions online, and although this may bring a lot of challenges, they participated really actively and positively! We talked about the dynamics in music, learned many new Italian words to describe the music, talked and listened to the music of one of the greatest composers of all time (Mozart!), did rhythm reading, singing, body rhythm activities, and Y5 started to learn the recorder online, and all of that without forgetting to always have fun! We can’t wait to do “live” music altogether starting next week!

TBS Mathematicians have impressed us with their ability to think outside the parallelogram and transition between technology and good-old paper to produce some lovely mathematical results! 

KS3 : Nothing negative about it…

KS3 students have been spending the first few weeks of school practicing their number skills. The Year 7s have been impressive when practicing negative numbers and the BIDMAS rules. 7A produced some excellent (and colourful!) solutions on Pear Deck, along with some posters to remind everyone the rules of BIDMAS (by Zara in 7A and Upasana in 7B):

The Year 9s have been looking at breaking down large numbers into prime factors. Sahara (9A) has broken down 144 here:

KS4: Factoring it all in

The Year 10s and 11s have been busy recapping skills from last year before jumping into the harder topics. The Year 11s have been exploring functions – 11Ma2 challenged themselves to solve the hardest questions on Functions they could make (how many can you do?). Shridha (11Ma2) wrote out an excellent solution on Pear Deck:

Biraj in 11Ma3 takes a graphical approach to look at linear graphs.

The Year 10s have been working on numbers, looking at factors and multiples. Here is an example, including some steps for you to follow! 

KS5: Without Geometry, Life Is Pointless.

The Year 13s are using all these skills to solve real-life problems! In Pure Maths, students are looking at real-life relationships and trying to find equations graphically and algebraically. 

Mariya (13CMa2) used some algebra to solve a similar problem!

Similarly, the Y13 Mechanics classes are looking at everyday situations and discussing the forces involved! The Y12 statistics classes are looking at applications of averages!

This is to notify all new parents to please contact the school guard house to get TBS stickers for their vehicles. This helps us to ensure drop-off and collection goes smoothly at the parking lot.

Year 9:

Year 9 have been working on Jazz Fusion. This week they created improvised versions of Miles Davis’ All Blue.

Year 8 students have been working on Stage Combat in PAWs. Ms Mountjoy and Ms Wynn were particularly impressed with the creativity of the work!

As part of their ongoing D of E Volunteering, KS4 and 5 students have put together this biweekly newsletter. 

Together with local animal charities, they hope to increase the number of animals being adopted and reduce the number who have to be euthanised.

Thank you to the parents who have already confirmed that this will be the last term for their child/children at TBS. In line with the school policy, the date for the official notice of withdrawal is Monday, the 6th of September if this will be the last term for your child/children at TBS. Please inform Ms. Bajracharya (mbajracharya@tbs.edu.np) the Admissions Manager, if you wish to withdraw your child from TBS by the above date. Failure to give such notice will result in the security deposit being withheld in full. Parents will receive a Clearance Form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of this term. The security deposit will be refunded once the form is submitted and all the school resources have been returned to the school in good order. Parents will always be notified in the instance where a partial amount of the deposit has been frozen to cover missing or damaged resources. We thank you for entrusting us with the education of your child/children and wish you the very best for the future; you will always be part of the TBS family, so please do keep in touch. This could be through the school social media or getting involved in the Alumni Association, details of which are in the clearance form.
