Secondary Co-Curricular Clubs
From Aninme to Zonta (and over 40 clubs in between) secondary students will be invited to choose up to 5 from the extensive choice of co-curricular clubs on offer in Terms 3 & 4 on Wednesday next week. If you want to try out for the NISSA league, audition for Mamma Mia, take up something new or pursue a passion, period 9 co-curricular club time is the place to be in 2025.
The co-curricular club booklet will be sent to students and parents on Tuesday next week. If your child is younger please help them make their selections and end each day with a fun and enriching opportunity. If they are older, encourage them to choose a variety of clubs that will support their university applications, provide much needed rest and relaxation during the busy exam season ( a good physical workout at the end of the academic school day is the perfect brain reset for an evening’s homework and revision)
With the exception of Duke of Edinburgh International Award and the two homework clubs, all our clubs are classified as a skills club, a volunteering club or a physical club in line with the requirement for the TBS Graduation Diploma and the Duke of Edinburgh International Award requirements
Please note that students are expected to commit to the co-curricular clubs they have signed up for and not drop out part way through the term. If there are any requests to change or drop a club, such requests should be made by parents (not students) by email to the school.
Secondary Winter Concert
The hall was filled with seasonal cheer on Tuesday as we enjoyed a wonderful Winter concert. Led by the Key Stage 3 choir (every student is a member!) who performed a varied repertoire from Jingle Bells to Coldplay cover with a Mamma Mia Abba preview thrown in for good measure, the audience were treated to a wonderful evening entertainment of choral and instrumental music and dance featuring ensembles, bands and solo performance. Thank you to Ms Freeman and her team for putting together such an enjoyable evening.
U15 FOBISIA Games
It was a real pleasure to accompany 22 students from Year 9 and 10 to the U15 FOBISIA Games held at Pattana Sport Resort last week. The students’ conduct and commitment to achieving their best performances across the course of the competition was outstanding. The coaching team of Mr Steenson, Ms Gurung and myself could not be prouder of their efforts. As you will read below in the student written reports, everyone had a fantastic time and gained many valuable experiences from attending the games.
Day 1: Athletics & Swimming
The atmosphere as we walked into the stadium was incredible. People were standing with their teams, holding flags, and wearing unique kits to represent their teams. Throughout the day, the stadium was filled with energy. Chants and cheers echoed through the air as everyone cheered together for their teammates. The excitement was well heard, with supporters talking, laughing, sharing in the love of the events, and giving advice to each other. It felt like the whole place was buzzing, everyone waiting for their events to begin. TBS was incredibly amazing in supporting their teammates by cheering from the sidelines and the TBS spirit was felt throughout the stadium.

After a tremendously exciting morning of athletics, The TBS FOBISIA athletics team plunged into the swimming events. With much enthusiasm and encouragement the TBS team swam and supported each other to the best of their abilities. Medals came in the 25m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 25m backstroke. A special mention to both Ranbir and Pema who stepped up and offered to take on more races showing support and compassion for others. A fantastic finish to a hugely successful first day.

Day 2: Basketball
My Fobisia experience as a Basketball captain was amazing. It was amazing to be behind the wheel of such an awesome team. The first two games we played were very challenging being put up against the best schools BVISHN and KTJ but with every loss we took, we got even stronger. We destroyed the last two teams that we played against which were BULLDOGS and POWIIS and I enjoyed the entire day with my teammates and other schools which were quite kind. My favorite moment was seeing people who have gotten better at basketball because of all the weeks of practice and work that they put in. It was also amazing to see the level of encouragement that we gave to each other which truly made us perform better. I am truly beyond grateful to be part of the FOBISIA 2024 basketball team. Thank you, Ms.Watt, Mr. Steenson, and Ms.Gurung for making this trip possible.

As Captain for the girls basketball team I am proud to say that we have tried our best and put our all into each and every game. I’m grateful for my team as they have not only shown that they are good basketballers but that they also have good sportsmanship and have the will to win, additionally I am also grateful for the teachers who have coached us and supported us through this journey. One of my favourite moments was the faces of my teammates as they lit up everytime we scored a basket, how they would cheer for us and have faith in each one of us no matter what had happened. Overall I’m thankful that I was able to have the opportunity to lead such a wonderful team.

Day 3 – Football
As the football captain for FOBISIA, I couldn’t be prouder of my team. Despite facing physical challenges after 3 days of competition, every player gave their absolute best. Their resilience and determination were inspiring to watch. Watching them push through the pain and work together with excellent teamwork and spirit helped me push through my last few matches. Securing 3rd place wasn’t just a victory on paper it was the result of their hard work, passion, and dedication. I feel so grateful to be part of such an incredible group. This achievement is one we’ll cherish forever, and I’m thankful for every moment shared.

Football at FOBISIA was tough but fun. Our first game against the Titans ended 2–2, but we were disorganized. In the second game against KTJ, we improved and drew 4–4. To reach the semifinals, we had to win the last group match against the Dragons, and we did, 4–1. After a loss to POWIIS in the sem-finals we moved into the third-place game which finished 0–0 in normal time. A goal to BVIS in extra time meant the game finished 1-0. We were sad about the loss but should been proud of how hard we played and even if we were tired, we still continued and fought very hard as for the last game we did not only want for us but there were people in our groups who had no medals and we wanted to it for them.

Outstanding Results in International Bebras Competition
We are delighted to share the exceptional performance of our students in this year’s Bebras Computing Challenge, an international competition that tests computational thinking and problem-solving skills. Our school has shown remarkable improvement from last year’s results, with our students scoring well above the average in their respective categories.
Several of our students achieved the impressive distinction of placing first in their year groups. Congratulations to Soren (Year 7), Laksh (Year 8), Jeongyoon Lee (Year 9), Aryan Shrestha (Year 12), and Adhyayan Agrawal (Year 13) for their outstanding achievements as top performers in their respective years.
The competition challenged participants with engaging puzzles that require logical thinking, pattern recognition, and algorithmic reasoning – skills that are increasingly valuable in today’s digital world. Our students’ success reflects their dedication to developing these crucial abilities.
More results are still to be announced next week, and we look forward to celebrating additional achievements from our talented students. This strong showing in the Bebras Challenge demonstrates our school’s commitment to excellence in computing education and problem-solving skills.
Stay tuned for more results and congratulations to all participants who represented our school so admirably in this prestigious competition.
Art Trip to Bangkok
The Art department led a team of 16 IGCSE and A level Artists travelled to Thailand to experience a week of cultural activities, artist workshops and exhibitions centred around the Bangkok Art Biennale. Our first day, our students undertook a street photography tour of Bangkok’s flower market led by photographer Tim Russell, followed by a visit to UNESCO heritage site Wat Pho, the reclining Buddha and installations by Louise Bourgeois.
Koh Kret (pottery island) was our second day destination, visiting the ancient Mon pottery site, kilns and studios, guided by award winning ceramicist Max Wattanacorbin.
On day three, we journeyed to the ancient kingdom of Ayutthaya, to study the Lat Thai inspired temples, walk amongst the ancient Chedi and palaces and visit the famous Buddhi in the roots of the Bodhi tree. That evening, we visited the BAB exhibitions at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre, whilst A level students undertook a 3 hour life drawing and portfolio workshop, led by a local artist.
Day Four, our artists undertook a 4 hour experimental process based and textiles inspired workshop at Paron School of Art and visited the gardens and textile museum of the iconic Jim Thompson house.
On our final day, students wandered the stalls, shops and galleries of the expansive Chatuchak market, closing the week with an evening visit to Jodd Fair night market. Across the week our students had an amazingly enriching and diverse experience. They have worked with numerous artisans, experienced 100+ artworks, had over 8 hours of tutoring and walked over 90000 steps.
