We are delighted to welcome you to another exciting year at TBS and hope that all of our students and families have had a restful and enjoyable summer break. Our teaching team and wider TBS staff are excited to welcome our students and families to campus on Tuesday 12th August and are very much looking forward to continuing on our learning journey together. 

The Primary and Early Years students should arrive at school between 7:45am and 7:55am ready for an 8:00 am start; they are welcome to play in the playground until the bell rings to go in for registration which will take place at 8:00 am and lessons will commence at 8:05 am. If they arrive after 8:05am students are required to go to the office to be registered late. 

Lunches can be brought from home or bought from the canteens (menus shared weekly in the Yeti News); food deliveries are not permitted. 

The school day finishes at 2:30pm and students should be picked up by an adult. If your child is going home with anyone other than the registered adult, please let your child’s class teacher know in advance. Extra-curricular activities (ECAs) will start in week 2, for students taking part in ECAs, school will finish at 3.30 pm. Families are welcome to use the big slide & front play area until 4pm daily, students must be actively supervised by an adult. Students should follow the playground rules during this time, but none of the teaching team will be on duty to supervise.

Your child’s class teacher will be in touch via email with all the essential information you will need for the start of the year, such as which days your child will have PE and library sessions and which equipment they need to bring with them. They will also share with you the link to our Year Group websites where you can find all the relevant information, updated weekly. 

Following a change in UK Law, TBS (as a BSO school) is required to become a mobile free zone for students from the start of this academic year. This includes smart watches. Please ensure your child does not bring a phone or smart watch to school, if they are bought into school, your child’s teacher will keep them safe until the end of the day and return them to your child to take home. This extends to the adults in the TBS school community, so please look out for the mobile use areas and mobile free areas whilst on site.

TBS continues to be a non-uniform school but students are required to adhere to the student dress code.

Your child’s wellbeing is our top priority and we will continue having provisions in place to ensure the highest standards of health and safety. As always, we expect our students to follow these safety guidelines whilst on campus. If your child is unable to attend school, please email your class teacher and absence@tbs.edu.np before 8am.

To support our students and families, we will be holding parent information sessions on Wednesday 12th August 2025 at 2:45pm. This session will allow you (and your family should they wish to join) to meet your child’s teacher and gain an insightful understanding of how we will work together to support your child’s ongoing progress, supporting them in rising to challenges and reaching their personal goals. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Details of these sessions will be shared with you by your child’s class teacher via email at the start of next week.

Start of Term

Returning students

Term starts for all returning students on Tuesday 11th August. Secondary students should arrive at school by 8:10 am, ready for an 8:15 am start; registration will take place at 8:15 am and students arriving in the mentor room after this time will be registered as late. Lessons will commence at 8:40 am. If they arrive after 8:35 am students are required to go to the reception to be registered.

Start of Term

New students

New students and their families are invited to a pre-term welcome and induction session at 1.45 pm in the school hall on Monday 10th August. Students should bring their device with them so that the ICT team can set up their devices on the school system ready for Tuesday. We will also take new student photographs.

School finishing times

The secondary school day ends at 4.30 pm and 3.30 pm on Fridays, but students should leave the campus by 3.40 pm (2.40 pm on Friday) if they have no co-curricular commitments in the final hour of school.. A reminder that secondary students are allowed to leave campus independently and do not have to wait to be picked up.

Mobile Phones

There has been a change in UK Law, aimed at raising the standards of child protection and safeguarding in schools over the holidays that requires all British Schools to be mobile phone free zones for students. This means that students should not have access to their phones before school, during academic lessons, at break, at lunch and after school.

 We would ask all parents to model good practice and refrain from using their own mobile phones whilst on school premises (except in the designated Yeti café area). 

There is no educational need for any student to have a phone in school. However, we recognise that many parents will want their child to carry a phone to and from school for safety purposes. Students who choose to bring a phone to school, so they can contact parents or drivers whilst travelling to and from school, should switch it off during the school day and leave it in their locked locker at all times. Please provide your child with a suitable locker lock. (KS5 students may leave their phones switched off and in their bags). Students who need to urgently contact their parents during the day may do so at reception. In all other cases we will contact you if there is an issue or a concern, and if you do not hear anything from us or your child, then all will be well with your child! If you need to get an urgent message to your child, please phone the school reception. 

Co-curricular activities (CCAs), with the exception of NISSA and FOBISSIA U15 sports trials, co-curricular activities do not start until week 2 and will run all the way until the end of Term 2 in December. There is an extensive CCa programme, and the CCA booklet will be shared with students and parents on Monday. There will be a CCA fair for students on Wednesday in mentor time, followed by CCA sign up on Engage at the start of period 2. We encourage all parents but particularly those in Key Stage 3 (Year 7 -9) to play an active role in helping their child engage in the CCA programme. Please spend some time with your child before next Wednesday, helping them to identify CCAs they are interested in and CCA leaders they should talk to at the CCA fair. All KS4 and KS5 students will need a balance of skills, physical and volunteering to meet the requirements of TBS graduation diploma, the International Duke of Edinburgh Award and to develop their personal profiles for future university applications.

Exam Results. A and AS level results will be published next week and IGCSE results in Week 2. I look forward to sharing the highlights with all parents in Yeti news and through TBS social media.

“Meet the Leadership Team” Parent Information Session (PIS)

There will be a “Meet the Leadership Team” Parent Information Session (PIS) next Thursday at 8.15 am in the secondary library. In week 2, there will be PIS for each Key Stage, with an informal opportunity to meet your child’s mentor and a more formal “The Year Ahead” PIS led by your child’s Head of Key Stage. These will run from 8.15 am to 9.30 am

Attendance: 

As a school, we understand the strong link between high attendance and success at school – not just academic success but also pastoral success, for example friendships, personal wellbeing and self esteem. Please avoid taking your child out of school during term time, but if this is unavoidable, please give the school good notice. 

Attendance, absence (authorised and unauthorised), and punctuality will be reported on school reports. We do understand there may be reasons when you can only give the school notice for an absence on the day, for example, illness. If your child is unable to attend school, please email the attendance team at absence@tbs.edu.np before 8:00 am on the day of the absence. Please copy your child’s mentor into the email and always give a clear, concise reason for the absence.

Student dress code. TBS is a non-uniform school but students are required to adhere to the student dress code.

Lunch and snacks: Students can buy snacks from the tuck shop at break and lunch from the school canteens. Students can also bring in their own food (packed lunch) which they can warm using one of the on campus microwave ovens. The school does not permit food to be delivered during the day, either from home or from restaurants.
