Year 11 A level Options Information

The Secondary academic team look forward to meeting all Year 11 parents and students at the combined Key Stage 5 options information session and parent-teacher consultations next Tuesday after school. Our Head of Secondary Academics, Ms Willimas, and Head of Key Stage 5, Ms Sheldon, will be leading the presentation, where they will outline our academic A level offer including the recently introduced Independent Project Qualification, our supra and co-curricular offer with its links to the TBS Graduation Diploma and our outstanding university application and preparation programme.
The presentation, which will start at 5.00 pm is also open to external students who might be considering A levels with us or at another institution. Please do pass this message onto any families you may know who have Year 11 (Grade 10) children who may be considering starting an international curriculum in August 2025. Non TBS students/families can register using this link.
We are also inviting applications for TBS Key Stage 5 scholarships. If parents are aware of any excellent student outside TBS who might need financial support, please also share this information with them and invite them to attend on Tuesday.

Academic Competitions
Last week was a busy weekend for our academic teams. On Saturday TBS took four junior teams to the Lincoln Maths competitions and four junior teams to the World Scholar’s Cup at Premier. On Sunday 9 senior teams (Year 9 & 10) took their turn at the WSC. Over the two days, over 50 year 7-10 students represented TBS in an academic team.

TBS entered seven Year 11 Triple Science pupils into the prestigious 2025 British Physics Olympiad hosted by the University of Oxford. Lincoln Inter-School Maths Competition: TBS First and Third!

Last Saturday, on the 1st of February, KS3 students participated in the Lincoln school Mathcounts Challenge, which consisted of teams from Lincoln, KISC and TBS. The day’s events started at 9:00, after which the first two individual rounds were held, a sprint round and target round, both of which were quite challenging rounds. Eventually, the team round was held, in which students solved 10 questions in 20 minutes in the designated groups of 4, which was perhaps the highlight of the day. After a filling lunch, the results were tallied, and one of our teams came joint third, while our A team of Jeongyeon, Sahas, Laksh and Jordhen came first, topping off a wonderful half-day competition!

World Scholar’s Cup Seniors (250 teams, 750 competitors)

On Sunday (the second of February) the senior TBS World Scholars team set off to Premier International School for the triple threat day (Creative Writing, Debating and Academic Scholar’s Challenge), feeling nervous but mostly excited! After hot chocolate and a quick briefing, the team split into two groups and either headed off to complete the Collaborative Writing and the Scholars Challenge, or listened to multiple songs about alpacas and took the debate challenge. After lunch, both groups swapped activities. Having ended the day feeling positive, they headed back to school. Tuesday’s events took place at the Nepal Academy Hall, and consisted of the Scholar’s Bowl, more songs about Alpacas, the Scholar’s Show (Shout out to those brave TBS students who participated!) and finally the Awards Ceremony. TBS students won many medals and trophies, and represented the school to the utmost of their abilities. We are all looking forward to the global rounds! An extra special thank you to all the teachers for coming and supporting us and helping us prepare for this trip. (I still do not understand WSC’s obsession with alpacas….)
Meredith (Year 9)
All students did fantastically well and highlights were: first team in creative writing (Meredith, Araddhya, Dipashna), first team in scholar’s bowl (Maulik, Paridhi, William), sixth team in debating (Mateo, Victoria, Upasana) and 4th place overall senior team (Maulik, Paridhi, William). Individually TBS students came second in creative writing (Meredith Y9) and had three in the top 12 debaters (Mateo 4th Y10,was our top debater), whilst William was 11th, and TBS’ top student, in the scholar’s challenge, winning medals in all six sections (History, Societies, Art, Literature, Science and the special topic). Yajur was selected for the showcase debate and Saanvi and Sizuka were successful in their audition for the cultural show where they performed a beautiful traditional Nepali dance.

Year 10 students visit the Alliance Française to celebrate Chandeleur with traditional crêpe making.
(On Thursday, we visited the Alliance Française to celebrate the Chandeleur. We made crepes from scratch and we each had a chance to cook and flip the crepes on the stove. We all ate the crepes we cooked and prepared extras for the teachers who helped us. It was a lot of fun spending time at the Alliance Française and we want to say thank you to our teachers for bringing us there!)
