Student Librarian Visit to Ekta Book Shop

On Wednesday, our Student Librarians visited Ekta Book Shop to select and purchase new books for Mary Ward School, Sangita’s Story Swap, and the Primary Library. The students demonstrated excellent leadership, teamwork, and responsibility throughout the visit as they carefully considered and selected books that would appeal to a wide range of readers across our school and community.

In preparation for the trip, the Student Librarians gathered feedback from primary students through a survey to identify which books, genres, and authors they would like to see in the library. They worked collaboratively to review the responses, discuss priorities, and plan the choices to select books. 

The students were highly enthusiastic about the opportunity and showed great commitment while preparing for the visit.

This experience provided a meaningful opportunity for the Student Librarians to take an active role in developing our library collections, supporting our community schools, and helping to foster a love of reading. 

Year 6 Graduation Assembly and Sleepover

Year 6 had a truly memorable day on Thursday as they celebrated the end of their time in Primary. The day began with a fun-filled trip to Oopss, where students enjoyed bowling, games and time together as a year group. In the afternoon, parents and wider family members joined us for a very special Graduation Assembly. The students looked back on their Primary years, sharing memories from Early Years all the way through to Year 6. They also gave a heartfelt thank you to Mr White, who is sadly leaving TBS this year. A real highlight was the students performing on musical instruments and singing the fitting song, The Best Days of Our Lives. This was followed by a formal speech from Ms Moulds and the presentation of graduation certificates by Ms Drumm. The assembly ended with the much-anticipated and very cheerful hat throw!

After the assembly, students and families had time to continue the celebrations together with special graduation cupcakes and ice popsicles. Once parents had left, the students set up their beds in the Primary and Secondary libraries before enjoying dinner together. The evening continued with a brilliant disco led by the one and only DJ Sutherland, including a guest performance from the teachers and the TBS Yeti. There was a lot of dancing, singing, laughter and fun! Later, some students watched a movie while others relaxed in the library, with plenty of chatting and perhaps a little less sleeping than planned! In the morning, everyone packed up, had breakfast, and met the new Year 6 students for a special handover. What a wonderful ending to a fabulous time in Primary. We wish all our Year 6 students the very best as they begin the next exciting chapter of their learning journey.

An Exciting Step Forward — Primary Transition Day

There was a wonderful buzz of excitement across the Primary this week as we held our annual Transition Day, which is one of our favourite days of the year and a truly special moment in the primary calendar.

From Early Years all the way through to Year 5, children made their way to their new classrooms ready to take that exciting step forward into the next chapter of their primary journey. For many, this meant meeting their new teacher in person for the very first time, as well as exploring a new space, making new friends and getting a feel for what next year has in store. For those whose new teachers are yet to join us, a specially prepared video introduction meant that every child will see a familiar face when the new year begins, ensuring nobody heads into the new academic year feeling uncertain about what lies ahead.

It was a joy to watch the children move through the school with such confidence and curiosity. From our youngest children in Early Years taking their first steps into a new setting, to our Year 5 students striding towards their final year of primary with real maturity and excitement, the day was a wonderful reminder of just how much our children grow and flourish with every year that passes.

Transition Day is about so much more than simply visiting a new classroom. It is about belonging and about feeling safe, excited and ready. It is about children knowing that they are expected, welcomed and valued before they even arrive. We are enormously proud of how every child approached the day with open hearts and open minds.

We would like to thank all of our staff for the care and warmth they brought to welcoming their new classes, and to the families whose support at home helps children embrace these moments with such positivity.

We cannot wait to see what next year brings for every single one of them.

Celebrating Our Learning Journey in EYFS and KS1

Today, our Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 children came together for a wonderful end-of-year assembly to celebrate their learning and achievements over the last 12 months. The children proudly shared some of their favourite experiences from the year, reflecting on the many exciting activities, visits and special moments they have enjoyed. Families were treated to a variety of songs and dances, which the children performed with great enthusiasm and confidence. 

It was a lovely opportunity for the children to showcase their talents and celebrate all they have accomplished throughout the year and we look forward to the exciting opportunities and adventures that next year will bring.

Senior Play: Jerusalem

Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth, is a wild, funny and fiercely alive piece of modern theatre, and one of the most celebrated British plays of the twenty-first century. Set on St George’s Day in a woodland clearing on the edge of a Wiltshire market town, it follows Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron: ex-daredevil, local legend, and self-appointed lord of a battered mobile home that has become a refuge for misfits, teenagers, and lost souls. Produced and performed by our senior drama students, come and see senior students bring this extraordinary play to life on Thursday 25th June, 5.30pm, at Nepal Film Campus theatre (entrance from Best Western Hotel). 

Tickets will be on sale at the school shop from 9am on Monday, and will be 500 Rs per ticket, with all proceeds going to TBS’ Community Partners. Please note, the play features strong language and themes), and is not suitable for younger audiences. (Age Rating: Year 9+)

Class of 2026 Graduation: A Night to Remember (Wednesday)

On Wednesday, our school community came together to celebrate the Class of 2026 at their graduation ceremony, and it was nothing short of beautiful. From the dance floor to the diploma walk, the evening was filled with joy, gratitude, and a true sense of achievement.

The night opened with the graduating class, boys and girls alike, taking to the floor for an evening of dancing, set against a lineup of incredible performances. Standout acts from Amitayush, Zana and Josef set the tone for a truly festive celebration.

As the evening went on, this year’s Head Prefects took the stage for a heartwarming address, reflecting on the privilege of growing alongside one another throughout the year and offering heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this graduation possible.

The class was also honored to hear from guest speaker Rehan Shrestha, a graduate from the TBS Class of 2011. He shared wisdom for the graduates as they step into their next chapter, encouraging them to be true to their morals and reminding them that it’s never too late to change direction and pursue what they truly want.

KS5 Mentors, Ms. Drumm, Mr Draper and Mrs. Sheldon followed with their own sweet and sincere words, capturing just how proud the staff are of this graduating class and all they’ve accomplished.

The highlight of the night came as each graduate crossed the stage to receive their diploma, greeted with applause and cheers from family, friends and faculty alike.

From the music and performances to the speeches and the final walk across the stage, it was truly a night to remember, one filled with happiness, pride, and an atmosphere of celebration that will stay with this class for years to come.

End of Year Awards Assemblies
KS4 Awards Assembly (Wednesday) : Aarambha (Year 10), Luveena (Year 9)

During this week’s Wednesday assembly, Mr. Draper introduced our end-of-term awards. We had a wide variety of achievements to hand out, ranging from Marvellous Mentees and the 5C’s awards to the Sports Person of the Year. To start things off beautifully, Pranita gave a performance on the piano.

We began with the Marvellous Mentees awards, which were chosen by the mentors and presented by Ms. Hall, Mr. Hensman, Ms. Maes, Mr. Branard, Mr. Seenan, Ms. Mirza, Ms. Fallon, and Ms. Thompson. Among the awards, Ms. Hall awarded Sriguni (10A) for actively participating in school events. Mr. Hensman (10D) presented his award to Yukta for her consistent kindness to peers both inside and outside her mentor group. Ms. Maes (10K) recognized Norbu for helping ensure the Year 9 students thoroughly understood the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) program. For the Year 11s, Mr. Seenan (11A) humorously gave his Marvellous Mentee award to Bibhushan for causing havoc in class and earning himself plenty of warnings! Meanwhile, Ms. Mirza (11D) gave her award to Ashish for his stellar ability to complete any assignment given to him.

Next, we moved on to the 5C’s awards, which celebrate our students who embody Challenge, Confidence, Community, Creativity, and Compassion. The Challenge award went to Aarambha for pushing himself to achieve his DofE Bronze Award, being a part of the Leading Linguists, and participating in every single Spirit Week event. The Confidence award was presented to Arka for competing in and winning the entire Mr. India competition. Finally, the Community award went to Fahmi for generously sharing all of his revision resources with the Year 9 students.

The next presentations recognised our Sports Persons of the Year for both male and female categories. The male sports award went to Yonden for his incredible hitting in rounders and his outstanding contributions to the NISSA football and basketball teams. The female sports award was given to Pema, who has greatly influenced the growth of volleyball not only in Year 10 but across multiple year groups. Pema is also a highly supportive peer during PE lessons and a dedicated member of the school NISSA team.

We had many other recognition awards yet to come after all these general awards. Every year, for each subject, a student is rewarded for Attitude to Learning ATL and Excellence. ATL is rewarded to the student who has pushed themselves the most into their academics whereas the excellence award is given to the student who has had the best improvement throughout the year.

We once again had to move onto a different set of awards – the individual house point badges and the housepoint cup. This was a special award, not just for Year 10 and 11 students, but for the TBS community as a whole. Teachers give out housepoints to encourage students and acknowledge their hard work. This is given out during lessons – teachers and students both love it! 

These awards are not meant for just a picture or a show, it’s for recognising our students, our TBS community and accepting every student – at the end of the day, everyone is unique in their own way. 

While the assembly inspired all of us to set new goals for next year, it also brought some sad news. Regrettably, our Head of Key Stage 4, Ms. Middlebrook, is leaving the school this year after being with us for a very long time. We will all miss her immensely. As Mr. Palmer stated during the assembly, “She was a very hardworking colleague of mine in the office; she cared for every single member of you.”

Speaking from the bottom of my heart, from the very beginning of my first year in KS3, she supported me throughout my secondary school journey, whether it was in science lessons or outside the classroom. Good luck at your next school, Ms. Middlebrook. You have been an incredible role model for all of us to look up to. You will be missed by the entire TBS community!

Excellence and celebration at the top of the world
Key Stage 3 Awards (Tuesday)

This week, Secondary had its end of year celebration assembly to acknowledge and highlight student achievements throughout the year. KS3 had theirs on Tuesday, KS4 had theirs on Wednesday, and year 12 had theirs on Thursday. This article will focus on the KS3 celebration assembly.

There was a selection of fields where students could win awards including punctuality, attendance, embodying one of the 5Cs and housepoints. Students could also win awards for indi

vidual subjects in the year group, either for attitude towards learning (ATL) or excellence. Parents were invited to this event and in between awards dance and musical performances took place to add to the positive atmosphere. Alongside this, photos of students winning awards were taken next to Mr Draper.

The assembly was a huge success. Though most won awards some did not but they still left with smiles, happy for their friends who did win an award which is what TBS truly is. We hope to continue the same success if not better next year.

Music Academy Recitals (Friday)

Thank you to Mr Krishna and his team for organising the  end of year music academy recitals today. Our informal recitals give every music student in TBS the opportunity to perform in public – no matter what stage of the music careers they are. Certificates were also presented to students who have entered for their LCM grade exams. We look forward to presenting the results certificates when grades are published next term.

A Level Foundations course presentations (Friday)

Students moving from SEE and other systems into TBS’ sixth form next academic year have been enjoying a rigorous introduction to TBS and the British curriculum this term. Today, on the last day of the course, they presented on two fascinating research projects for which they have completed literature reviews, primary and secondary research, as well as taking tough questions from a teacher and student panel. These projects focused on the fascinating subjects of the ‘AI Arms Race: Deepfakes vs Fraud Detection Systems’ and ‘High Stakes Testing and Teen Mental Health’.

KS5 Prefect Planning (Thursday)

Following the appointment of our KS5 Prefect Team for the 2026-27 academic year, this week the team have started on their planning for next year. 

Expect to see more student-led events, assemblies, and projects than ever before, building on the success of the 2025-26 Prefect Team!

Parent Information Session: University Guidance (Tuesday)

This term we have hosted 2 Parent Information Sessions on University Guidance, the first focusing on Applications, and the second focusing on Scholarships & Financial Aid. Please find the slides from both sessions linked here. It is never too early to start researching university options. Parents are also invited to sign up for a Parents’ Unifrog account. Community Sports Day (Sunday)
Led by our Community Partners Club for local schools

On Saturday, June 13th, the Community Partner Action Club hosted its very first Sports Day. Six community partner schools took part: Shree Suryodaya Bal Bikash, Guheswari School, Madan Smarak, Mahendra Bhrikuti, and Hope Rising School. The morning was packed with action, with students competing in javelin, long jump, sack race, and sprints, before moving on to relay races and a tug of war to close out the day. It was sunny and hot all morning, but that didn’t stop anyone from giving it their all. The biggest surprise of the day came from Hope Rising School, who won the most events despite bringing a team of just four boys, way fewer than everyone else. It was a great first go at what we hope becomes an annual event, and a nice reminder of what these partnerships are really about.
