World Scholars Cup trip to the USA!

Eight students and two teachers travelled to America for the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions and the first evening saw students arrive late at their hotel base in New Jersey. The first two days were spent exploring New York City, seeing famous sights such as Times Square, the Empire State Building and Grand Central, as well as a day tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Then, students travelled to Connecticut and Yale University for the opening ceremony of the competition, before participating in a Scavenger Hunt around the Yale campus with students from all around the world. The following day, students undertook a day tour of the city of Boston, Massachusetts, visiting its two flagship universities of MIT and Harvard.
Day one of the competition itself saw students participate in a series of three debates, a team writing competition and a Scholar’s Challenge event, all of which the TBS Scholars excelled in, both as teams and as individuals.
Day two was a slightly later start as students travelled to the Toyota Theatre for the Scholar’s Bowl, where students answered a series of questions relating to the Scholar’s curriculum they had studied before travelling to America; again, this was a source of success with several students winning medals.
Following two full days of action-packed competition, students had a day to relax with a later-than-usual breakfast and the opportunity to visit a mall in the local area, while the final day of the trip saw students attend the Scholar’s talent show and the closing ceremony, where students collecting their haul of medals. In total, TBS students picked up 1 trophy and 37 medals!
