Saving Christmas!

Have you ever heard of the grumpy Yeti living in the high mountains of Nepal? This Yeti hates Christmas and parties. Luckily the TBS Learning Animals found the cave of the Yeti in the snowy Himalayas and together with the Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 students they convinced the Yeti that Christmas at TBS is really fun. It is the season to decorate the Christmas tree, wear warm slippers and pyjamas, bake crunchy cookies and rock around the Christmas tree.

Congratulations to KS4 who came second overall in the FOBISIA revision challenge, competing against schools across Asia to show off their knowledge in IGCSE English, Maths and Science. Siya in Year 10 also came in 9th place out of over 2000 students taking part across Asia!

The AS Options Evening which took place on Monday was a great opportunity for students in Year 11 to hear about the transition to Sixth Form and to begin deciding which A level courses they would like to study. Thanks to all those parents who attended. All the key information about the options process can be found in this booklet. 

This week’s spotlight is on Media Studies, a subject open to students in KS5. Media Studies is all about the role media plays in our world and how we as consumers interact with it. There is also a significant practical element to the subject which allows students to showcase their creative abilities in order to produce their own media.

AS Media Studies

For the exam units for AS, Year 12 have been working on textual analysis and studying the workings of the film industry.

Year 12 have also been working on the coursework component of the AS Level which centres around creating their own magazines. The students have been planning their magazines and went on our first post-Covid trip to a local restaurant to put their photography skills to use.

A2 Media Studies

As part of their advanced coursework project, Year 13 are working in production teams to create their own music videos and marketing materials. They recently pitched their plans to an expert panel, as pictured below, and are now preparing to start their final productions. Students are tracking this process on coursework blogs, reflecting on their performance and refining their work throughout.

Year 13 are also delving into the theory behind the media and the impact it has on our lives. Recently we have been studying postmodernism through film, television and even memes.
