It has been wonderful to see our students settling back into school with such enthusiasm after the winter break.
We have had an exciting week of learning and are looking forward to a number of exciting events and initiatives this term including Storytelling Week, E-Safety Week, World Book Week and Science Week to name a few! We will be updating you with more detailed information as the term continues and are also excited to invite our parents and carers to our information session next Thursday 18th January at 8:15am where we will be explaining the International Primary Curriculum in more depth.
Below is a snapshot of our week in Early Years and Primary:
The children in Early Years were keen to share learning experiences with their friends this week.
They have also been busy making signs for their new Vets role-play area and completing a balancing obstacle course!
Year 1 discovered a strange object with chalky yellow footprints leading from it on Tuesday morning.
More footprints have appeared each day but so far we have not seen any creature that could be making them! We have written some reports on what happened.
Linked to our new topic ‘Who am I?’, Year 2 have enjoyed the Entry Point by recognising our photographs with a different effect and explaining physical features to help us find our photographs. It was challenging to match some of the photographs.
Year 3 have enjoyed launching their new IPC topic, Textiles. They became fashion designers and created outfits out of a range of materials. The outfits were then shown off in a fashion show. It was a lot of fun and the children were very creative with their designs!
In Year 4 this week the children designed their own science experiments. As part of the topic ‘Material World’, we looked at the properties of materials. The children then selected one of these properties (e.g. absorbent), then designed an experiment to test different materials for that property. Afterwards, we discussed whether they had designed a fair test.
We have also enjoyed a great start to 2024 by sharing about our holidays and improving our oracy skills. We practised active listening and sequencing events.
In PE lessons the Year 5 students have been learning to play Tee-Ball, they have been both striking and fielding and our PE team have been impressed with their engagement.
6A have been working hard to plan the iMovies they are going to make for our Champions for Change IPC unit.
Whilst In 6Es Science lesson, as part of their STEAM project, they were investigating and testing out the laws of motion by designing and creating their own marble runs.
In Nepali, Year 3 students shared about their Christmas holidays in Nepali language and practised writing the Nepali alphabet.
Our Year 4 students also shared about their Christmas holidays in Nepali language and practised writing words in Nepali to caption their pictures.
The Year 1s were asking and answering simple questions this week about how we are feeling in French.
The Year 2 children were learning their numbers in French by playing a listening, counting and chasing game.
Year 5 students have enjoyed an exciting start to 2024 by starting their journey of learning how to play the ukulele.
In their music lesson, the Year 1 children were learning how to improvise on different instruments such as xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels.
During the Y3 & 4 PAWs session, the students worked on their acting, dancing and singing skills in preparation for their Term 3 production.
In the Library, the EYFS children looked at the characters from different fiction books and discussed the pictures.
Our Year 4 students were reading chapters from the Beast Quest books and discussing the character traits of the main characters.
