On Friday last week, we celebrated World Earth Day 2024 during our assembly.

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22, which this year was Monday of this week. World Earth Day was first held on April 22nd of 1970, an amazing 54 years ago! We celebrate World Earth Day to demonstrate support for environmental protection, an initiative which we hold in high regard here at TBS.

The theme this year is: Planet vs. Plastic. We discussed with children the different ways in which we can reduce our use of plastic, such as bringing in reusable water bottles to school, not using plastic bags when doing our shopping, and making sure we do our best to recycle bottles – such as using them to make plant pots – a competition was held by the House Captains earlier this year to encourage our students to reuse plastic. We also discussed the importance of not littering and throwing trash on the ground.

We are continuing to work hard to find ways that we can reduce our plastic use, and instil an understanding of not only how, but why this is important. We are also looking at how children can make little changes which will have a big impact to help the Earth for their future. We hope you can help with this as well!

Duke of Edinburgh International Award

Last Friday and Saturday 18 students from year 10 completed their qualifying expedition for the bronze level Duke of Edinburgh International Award. They walked for a total of 22 km in Shivapuri National Park, carrying all their food for the two day expedition. The overnight stop was at Shivapuri Village Resort where groups had to put up their tents and cook their evening meal before retiring to their sleeping bags for a well earned rest. Thank you to Ms Walters, from primary who planned, led and assessed this expedition.

Year 10 Geography Rivers Fieldwork Trip

Year 10 geographers were also learning away from school on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. They went to Himalika Resort where they rafted between various river locations to complete their IGCSE fieldwork surveys. They worked late into the evening on Tuesday, processing their data and then were up at 5.30 the next morning to be on the river at 8:00 am!

Exams

The first written exams of the season started yesterday with Year 12 psychologists having the honour, followed by IGCSE French and Mandarin this morning. Good luck to all our students. Year 11, 12 and 13 students are expected to attend school as normal throughout the exam season until the start of study leave on Friday 17th May. From Monday 20th May, students will only come in for their exams until their set return dates. These will be graduation on Tuesday 18th June for Year 13, teaching lesson resume for Year 12 on Monday 10th June and AS Taster days for Year 11 are on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th June, followed by Work Experience week (starting Monday 17th June) and Enrichment week starting Monday 23rd June until the end of the school year on Friday 28 June).

IGCSE and A level options

The final option blocks will be published early next week and Year 9 and Year 11 students will be asked to make the confirmed selections for their choice of IGCSE or A level subjects for next year.

Enrichment week

Students will also be receiving their Enrichment Week activity allocation. We have worked hard to allocate students to their chosen activities with the vast majority being able to pursue their first choice during the week.

Thank you to those parents who have confirmed that their child/children will be leaving TBS at the end of the term, i.e. Friday 28th of June 2024. Adequate notice is a requirement and avoids financial penalties for parents.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The deadline for providing the formal notice of the withdrawal of your child/children is Friday, 31st of May 2024. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the Admissions Office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents will receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 4. Please let Ms. Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late notice of withdrawal (or providing no notice) and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.
