As the end of term draws to a close this week, what a term it has been! It started with all of us in Continuous Learning and, very happily, ending with all of the secondary school students back on campus. Indeed, as I write this now, it is the anniversary of Nepal’s first lockdown starting! If anyone had told us then the impacts a virus would have on the world, I’m sure none of us would have believed it. Thankfully, we now have some modicum of normal again, and it has been lovely having students back on campus.
For this week’s end of term assembly, I would like to thank Lakshana in Year 11 for helping share the KS4 highlights for this term. Having spoken to the vast majority of KS4 students recently, without doubt, all of the students have said the highlight for this term has been coming back to school! Who would have ever thought a group of teenagers would say that?! For teachers, dais and didis too, it has also been our highlight. A school is not a school without students and all the noise, chatter and laughter that they bring with them.
As the term progressed, lunchtime clubs have been made available to students, and it has been great seeing them take up the offer of these clubs so fervently. As term 4 approaches, we are looking to also start after school clubs, and students (and parents) should look out for more information about this after the holidays. Miss Howell, our new Duke of Edinburgh coordinator, is also super excited for students to be continuing with, or indeed starting, their awards soon.
It has been a very busy term for our Year 11 students: starting with their mock examinations, and now ending with them preparing for their external exams. On that note, while Pearson (Edexcel) exams have been cancelled, CAIE exams are going ahead, and so I would ask all year 11 parents to ensure revision is being done during the holidays. It is also important that students take some time off to rest and relax and enjoy some hobbies. The CAIE exam timetable will be shared with students upon our return to school.
Year 11 students have also been looking beyond this current academic year and have been choosing their A-Level options. With blocks now decided, students have this week been making their choices. The school always works very hard to try to ensure that all students get their option choices. However, sometimes that is just not possible for logistical reasons.
Our current Year 9 students have also been thinking ahead and are in the process of choosing their IGCSE options as they embark upon KS4 after the summer holidays.
Many of the Year 11 students have been finishing their coursework components for their (I)GCSEs. Amongst others, subjects include History, Geography, English and DT. In DT, Mr Hannay has been thrilled to have his GCSE students back in the workshop using tools again and completing the practical aspects of their DT projects.
Here are photos of Devansh and Isaac making their models. I can’t wait to see the finished results!

In Geography, the Year 11 students have now finished their coursework for a river they have never actually been to, using data that have not collected. It’s certainly not been easy for them, and they have done an excellent job analysing and evaluating data that last year’s students collected.

Sticking with the geographical theme, Year 10 students have been putting their Chinese skills to good use by labelling major cities in China (in Mandarin).

In English, Year 11 have been collecting quotations this week as they complete their study of Sheriff’s play ‘Journey’s End’. We think this great digital work shows they’ve learned lots about online tools this year!

In Music, Abayaa and Manawi have finished their coursework and are now focussing on Music for wellbeing, looking at musicals harmony singing. Here they are singing “For Good” from the musical Wicked.
