Next week, our student leaders will be hosting a TBS spirit week to celebrate our school identity as a whole community.

The week’s programme is below and this video will give you a taste. Students are invited to take part in the dress up days, but there is no requirement to do so and plenty of other fun things will be happening around campus too.

Monday Extend the weekend into the week and get comfy by wearing your pyjamas to school!

Tuesday Bring anything but a school bag! Get creative and bring your school resources in any other container you would like for example, a bucket or a pushchair.

Wednesday Teacher appreciation day! Dress up as your favourite teacher and look out for secondary taking on some teacher roles during the day.

Thursday The British Gurkha Band will be in school to get us marching!

Friday Loving Kindness Day! Students will have opportunities to send kindness cards and gifts to show their appreciation to friends and teachers.

SPIRIT WEEK HOODIES!

The student leadership team is also thrilled to announce their exclusive school hoodie pre-order designed by Victoria in Year 9! Don’t miss out!

The hoodies will be available for pre-order throughout the spirit week only! Our student leadership members will be present at the school entrance with a mannequin wearing the hoodie to take your orders. The price is NRs. 3000 per hoodie and all proceeds will go to our community partners. There are 3 different sizes which you can try while placing your order. The anticipated time for the deliveries is by the end of February!

This week has been an exciting one in terms of our students enriching their school careers!  In the later hours of Tuesday evening, a team of young leaders jetted off to Penang, Malaysia for the FOBISIA Student Leadership Conference.  Mr Draper, Ms Lama and Mr Palmer, suitcases in hand,  escorted 20 leaders of tomorrow to The Prince of Wales International School, where they will be taking part in various activities.

In sports, our U15 students have been participating for the first time in a Kathmandu based NISSA Basketball tournament.  This is a knock out tournament, where our students were testing their sporting prowess against some of the other schools in the area.  Congratulations to both the boys and girls team for progressing into the quarterfinals, with the girls beating Vidya Bikash 23-13 and the boys edging just ahead in a close, but thrilling match against Golden Bud 23-19. Unfortunately, the girls were knocked out in round two facing Valley Public, but put up a valiant defence!  Good luck to the boys in their quarter final round.

This weekend will also see the start of the new World Scholars Cup season with the much anticipated Kathmandu round.  36 Scholars will compete over three days to be crowned Kathmandu champions and earn their place in the global round, to be hosted in Kuala Lumpur during Enrichment Week.  Students will debate, write and quiz their way to glory, with our junior teams competing on Sunday and Monday and our Senior teams on Monday and Tuesday.  If your child is taking part, please ensure that they are at school for 7.30am for a prompt departure on Sunday and Monday.

Next in our series of faculty-led information sessions, Ms Thompson welcomed parents into our Science labs this week. The science parent information session focused on our science provision from KS2 to KS5. Parent competition in the marble run challenge was fierce!

What an outstanding response we had to the TBS Bake Off competition held from 15th January to 26th January! This competition was held in response to student suggestions for school events and organised by the House Captains. In total there were 43 submissions of incredibly creative baked delights. The nominated teacher judges had a very tough job of tasting and scoring delicious treats every break time for two weeks and eventually had to make a decision about a winner for each year group. Mr Akkari proclaimed this experience as ‘one of the best in his teaching career’.
There was a special class award presented to 4M for their total of 10 entries!

Year 1 & 2 were very excited to welcome their friends from Shramik School to join them for their Performing Arts Workshop (PAWs) this week.

They are starting to prepare for the community concert in Term 4 where they will perform together for our TBS community.

They had a wonderful session together participating and collaboratively learning through a range of activities including drama games, singing and learning the songs that will perform. We look forward to their return after half term, when they will join us regularly every fortnight to rehearse and prepare for the concert.

Ms Rojeena Bajracharya, introduced our new Occupational Therapy Program for Primary School recently. We are excited to have Ms Rojeena on campus part-time as an external provider to support the growth and development of our students! Over the past week, Ms Rojeena has been busy getting to know her new students, their families, and the students’ classroom environments. Ms Rojeena is a student-focused practitioner and getting to know her students to create engaging Occupational Therapy sessions is of the utmost importance to her. We look forward to watching the growth of each student!

On Wednesday after school the students from Years 9-11 joined the Perse Team coding challenge. This competition is a little different from other coding competitions, as not only does it focus on coding, but it also tests students’ ability to work in a team.

The competition is hosted by Perse School, Cambridge and all the top schools from the UK, as well as many other top schools internationally, take part.

The challenge uses Python and students have to solve as many puzzles as they can in the time given. The results will be compared and the top groups will go forward to join round two. Having seen the results so far I’m pretty sure some of our teams will make it on to round 2 in March.

Thank you to those parents who have confirmed that their child/children will be leaving TBS at the end of the term, i.e.Friday 22nd March 2024. Adequate notice is a requirement and avoids financial penalties for parents.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The deadline for providing the formal notice of the withdrawal of your child/children is Wednesday 28th February 2024. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the admission office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents will receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 3. Please let Ms. Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late notice of withdrawal (or providing no notice) and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.
