Despite being online for the majority of the year, the PE department have had a very exciting year, with many challenges, sports and fun activities being transferred online. In this article, we are going to look at some of the great things that have impressed us over the past 2 weeks, since we made the move back online.

Foundation:

With our youngest 2 year groups, we have been practicing some Early Years Sports Day activities. These include, egg and spoon, bean bag throwing, jumping, obstacle course and many more. Due to being online, we have adapted some activities, and the pictures below show students practicing the ‘potato and spoon’ whilst walking around some obstacles and up some stairs:

Key Stage 1:

Since moving back online, Key Stage 1 has been looking at the fundamental skills, such as throwing, jumping and catching. Last week, students had lots of fun trying to bounce a ball down the stairs straight into a bucket, with awesome videos submitted onto seesaw. Below are some examples of the fantastic things that Key Stage 1 have been doing the last 2 weeks:

Key Stage 2:

In Key Stage 2, students have had the awesome opportunity to play ‘beat the teacher’ at home, competing against both Mr Steenson and Mr Randall. These challenges so far have included skipping, keepie uppies, sprinting and the Illinois agility test. Students have produced some fantastic scores for each challenge, and have often beaten the teacher!

Key Stage 3:

In the last 2 weeks of being online, Key Stage 3 have been looking at the theory behind exercise, such as what happens to our heart rate before, during and after exercise, as well as naming some of the muscles involved in certain exercises. All the theory work they have covered has been directly linked to the workout they completed that lesson.

Key Stage 4 and 5:

Key Stage 4 and 5 have been keeping very active throughout the 2 weeks, completing some HIIT, yoga, pilates and kickboxing workouts. Well done to all students on completing a variety of different workouts over the last 2 weeks.

Our GCSE students have continued to work hard on both the theory and practical side of the course, despite moving back online. Year 11 students have recently submitted their final practical video, and are busy revising the theory side of the course in lessons, ready for their final exam next month.

We would like to wish all exam students the best of luck with their upcoming exams and the PE department are looking forward to seeing all your amazing results.

Did you know that the TBS teachers have been providing training to 200 local colleagues over the past two weeks? Last week we offered four online training slots to 50 students of the Early Childhood Education Centre and this week our Primary and Secondary teachers have been delivering ten different webinars to 150 teachers of our Community Projects. It was a pleasure to be able to share our skills and knowledge, this is one of the many things that makes working at TBS so rewarding!

Thank you to those parents who have already confirmed that this will be the last term for your child/children at TBS. 

 In line with school policy, we are providing all parents with the final date that you need to provide the school with your official notice of withdrawal if this will be the last term for your child/children at TBS. The due date for the official notice of withdrawal is  Wednesday 2nd June 2021.  

 Please, therefore, inform Ms. Bajracharya (mbajracharya@tbs.edu.np) in the Admissions Office, if you wish to withdraw your child from TBS by Wednesday 2nd June 2021.  

 In line with school policy, failure to give such notice will result in the security deposit being retained in full.  

 Parents shall receive a Clearance Form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of this term. Failure to submit the form or returning all school resources in good order will partially affect the refund of the security deposit (parents will always be notified in such instances).

Year 5 created their own ‘Great Waves’, inspired by the famous japanese artist Hokusai, and learnt about ukiyo-e, or Japanese wood block prints.

Namsa’s Work:

Year 9 have been doing a cross curricular music and art project! in Music this week they created ‘limited material’ graphic scores and then devised the music that they show!

This is Orry’s Work:

Year 8 PAWs had their performance assessment this week and they responded well to the challenge of having learned the choreography on campus but then having to film their work online. Through diligent rehearsals, great communication and collaboration, they have managed to produce some excellent work. Below are four videos that start with the teacher directed choreography and end with the students own choreography that they developed in class. Sadly, not all videos could be formatted; there are a few students missing who did amazing work but couldn’t be inserted in the choreography.  Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, Video 4.

Year 8 students in Drama this week have been devising from various stimuli. Here are a few photos of them performing their devised work this week on Zoom. Students were exceptionally creative and performances ranged from ‘Intruders in the cranberry farm’ to exploring the feeling of jealousy or even the ideas of Blue Whales and their struggles to keep away from Fishermen.

Year 9 Drama students this week began to think about their Melodrama from the perspective of a costume designer. They had to research Melodrama costumes for their character and create a mood board. Then they had to comment on elements they liked from the stock images but also elements that they would change if they were the designer. The task then led to students embarking upon their own design, which will be completed next week.

Our secondary teachers revised the importance of retrieval practice on Monday this week, which lead to this great work from Year 11 who have been revising in music using a ‘brain dump’ of key features and a cops and robbers review of melody, harmony and tonality:

This week we are celebrating a shared student of the week for both Harish and Devashish S. Together they taught a really good revision lesson in Economics on ‘Terms of Trade’. Both students presented well and spoke with great confidence, especially as a member of their team was absent.

The prefect team (alongside all other Year 11, 12 and 13 students) continue to work hard preparing and revising for exams. We hope all students in Primary and Secondary are coping with the challenges of online learning and continuing to embrace the opportunities their teachers make available.
