What a fantastic last week of term we have had in Early Years & Primary, a very fitting end to a fun filled academic year!

We started the week with our Early Years Graduation assembly where the Early Years children performed a variety of songs and dances based around the theme of friendship and belonging. They were so proud and excited to celebrate their amazing year with their parents!

Then finished the day with our One World Gala Talent Show Finale!

Our panel of celebrity judges, Ms Drumm, Ms Gradden & Ms Kunwar were so excited to see all our finalists as the acts in the rounds had set the bar so high.

We were expecting an extravaganza, and it did not disappoint! Ms Gurung’s dance troupe opened the show with a performance of Arabian Night, which the Rockettes would have been proud of. This was followed by an array of performances which were enjoyed by all. After much deliberation by the judges, the results were checked & verified and the final winners were announced in assembly on Friday. Congratulations to all our performers!

On Tuesday we started the day with the Year 1 & Year 2 celebration assembly:

Thank you to our Y1 & Y2 families who attended the Year 1 celebration assembly; the children worked hard to learn the songs and actions that they performed. The children celebrated all that they have learnt and enjoyed this year and shared this through a video. The children also sang a lovely song for Ms Wiggers, whom they will miss greatly. 

With a full year back on campus, all of Years 3, 4 and 5 had a fantastic learning journey for 2022-2023! It was a delight to have families join us this week to celebrate all of the wonderful accomplishments and highlights of students. We were certainly impressed by such an enthusiastic and energy-packed final performance. As our students make the transition into the next academic year, we are eager to see their continued successes! 

Y5 Fundraiser

This Wednesday, Year 5 held a fundraiser as part of their Sustainable Development Goals topic exit point.  After reading the book, ‘A long walk to water’, which is about children their age without access to clean water, students were inspired to raise money to help children in our community partner school improve their access to quality water.

The students created artworks, crafts, baking and other things to sell whilst learning the basics of marketing, advertising, pricing, supply and demand and many other aspects of running a business. 

The day was a lot of fun although there were some steep learning curves. Thanks to their hard work and their parents’ generosity and support, we are delighted to say we have raised 63,025 NPR which will be donated to the Disabled Newlife Centre so they can begin work on their water filtration system.

Students rose to the challenge of enrichment week. They prepared for the scholars cup, went mountain biking, created Nepali art, designed their own text adventure game, painted the Z Club “Wall of Hope” Mural, created board games such as Cluedo and Monopoly, and made an album in a week. To give you a better flavour of what they did, here is a write up from a few of the projects:

As one activity in Enrichment Week, students participated in an inspiring set of Model United Nations sessions. Entirely student-led, this experience covered diverse topics from the commercialisation of space to historical events like the Congress of Vienna. We also held a captivating mock ICC trial of Vladimir Putin. The week was a great success, with students demonstrating impressive diplomatic skills and leadership. A truly enriching and educational experience, this MUN activity encapsulated the spirit of TBS.

Over 55 of the students embarked on a creative and cultural walking tour to the ceramic heartland of Nepal, Bhaktapur. After a guided tour of historic Durbar and Shilu Mahadev Temple, studying the architecture, motifs, and history. The students recorded their thoughts and experience using cameras and sketchbooks before visiting pottery square and speaking with the artisans. They continued this ceramic learning journey in Thimi, working with local artisans creating clay forms using wheel thrown and hand built techniques. Students finished the week with a tour of the kilns and the TBS Pottery Throwdown.

In Eco-upgrading our students were looking to see how we can make our school site more sustainable by using everyday items. They made an excellent start on our school greenhouse using old plastic bottles donated by the community and local businesses. They have also tried to look at how we can use our waste paper by making their own recycled craft paper which was on sale during our showcase. A visit to the ‘Three Trees Permaculture Farm’ allowed for a deeper understanding of sustainable farming within the city, as well as the opportunity for everyone to make their own soaps from household items. We also made information sign boards to highlight the variety of wildlife on our site and we sampled the pond to see which organisms were found in it. 

On the living well project students got to try out a number of different activities; rock climbing, golf, strength training, callisthenics, conditioning and Jujitsu. They also looked at components of a diet and took part in a cooking challenge. Finally they hosted their own living well expo. Students from primary and secondary got to try out their activities they planned based on what they learnt in the week. 

From colour-blind casting to AI, from ethics to emotions, our TBS scholars have been working hard on these topics to prepare themselves for the Scholar’s Cup Bangkok Round in September. The Enrichment Week gave them time for  interactive debate and writing workshops, Thai language sessions, as well as Nepali pop dance lessons!
