Our 1st Kathmandu Cub Scouts pack is part of British Scouting Overseas. Our Cubs have been working hard with Ms Joshi towards their investiture and this week they made their Cub Scout promise. Congratulations to you all!

Over the past term, Upper Key Stage 2 students have been using their creativity, collaboration and communication skills to create the masterpiece that was the Year 5 & 6 Production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

During their PAWs unit of work, they have learnt a great deal about theatre, writing and adapting scripts, designing programmes, posters and websites to promote their show. In addition, they have created fantastic props, set designs and even designed some of the costumes as well as being fully immersed in character, the children have been  committed to creating a common vision that they were unbelievably excited to share with their peers and family members.

On Wednesday, the rest of the Primary students came to watch the dress rehearsal and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were all extremely impressed by the level of professionalism and the talent that the Year 5 & 6 students showed.

Last night, the children were so excited to see a full house for their final performance, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support. Having you, their families, as their audience brings another dimension to their learning and their engagement, as Ms Drumm mentioned, it was wonderful to see their smiles and their enjoyment throughout the performance.

Their performance was delightful to watch, and the children acted, danced and sang with passion and talent. Well done to every member of 5 and 6 – what a wonderful experience it was to see you all learn and develop on this wonderful, theatrical journey. This production would not have been possible without the musical talents of Ms Gilbert and Ms Karki, the dancing skills of Ms Gurung and the stage lighting skills of Ms Bradley. We would also like to thank Mr Pass and Keshav Agarwal who were our in-house photographers for both shows. Mr Willy Wonka themselves have been delivering thanks in the form of Wonka Bars this afternoon!

Studying history at TBS helps students understand and grapple with complex questions and dilemmas by examining how the past has shaped (and continues to shape) global, national, and local relationships between societies and people.

Imagine asking a question about the past, assembling a set of clues through documents, artefacts, or other sources, and then piecing those clues together to tell a story that answers your question and tells you something unexpected about a different time and place. This is core to what TBS history students do.

We have had a busy start to the year, tackling topics as wide ranging as the Russian Revolution, Indian Independence, the causes of the First World War, the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and the French Revolution.

Our star year group of the Autumn term is Year 8. These young historians have been tackling the incredibly sad and complicated history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. They have conducted several enquiries into different aspects of this dark period of history, focussing on a diversity of topics including how people benefitted from slavery, the importance of humanising victims of atrocities, and how the exploitation involved in slavery led to many advancements that form the foundations of the world we live in today. Some students did some wonderful end of unit projects in the past few weeks – some highlights are linked below.

Fundamentally everything we do, everything we use, everything else we study is the product of a complex set of causes, ideas, and practices. Even the material we learn in other courses has important historical elements – whether because our understanding of a topic changed over time or because the discipline takes a historical perspective. Critical thinking, evaluation and investigation are at the very heart of learning history at TBS.

Thank you to those parents who have timely confirmed that your child/children will be leaving at the end of Term 2. On-time notice is a requirement in line with the school’s policy and avoids future consequences.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The last day of providing the formal notice of withdrawal of your child/children from the school is Wednesday, 16th November 2022. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the admissions office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents shall receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 2. Please let Ms. Manisha Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late or no notice of withdrawal and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.

The Leading Linguists have once again impressed the whole Secondary with their dedication and creativity in the celebrations of the Day of the Dead, led by Ms Fallon. They prepared a very informative presentation with an exciting quiz to follow for all the mentor groups to understand more about the festival. Then on Tuesday, there was an information hunt, which had seen many enthusiastic participants running around the school site, trying to be the quickest who could find all of the clues! On Wednesday, Mateo from Y8 and Ms Fallon hosted a traditional Mexican card game called Lotería. Many had fun and learnt some Spanish words too!

This week, students in key stage 3 and 4 took part in Education Perfect’s International Language Championships. Over 90 schools participated globally tackling linguistic puzzles for points. Our students did incredibly well volunteering their time outside of their lessons to compete, learn and move up the leaderboard finishing a very respectable 8th in the school’s category and 31st overall. Well done to everyone who took part and a special mention goes to the four students who achieved a hugely impressive gold award: Yosr, Sharana, Emmanuel and Ashish. Félicitations!

Our Senior Boys Football Team started the NISSA season off in fantastic fashion with a 5-0 win over Rosebud School on Thursday night. The effort, teamwork and skill shown by the team were great to see.

A big thanks to the rest of the 20-strong squad for their support and efforts during training; your contribution is an essential part of the team’s success. Also, huge thanks to the students and parents who came to support the team and created an excellent atmosphere; the team appreciates your support!
