The TBS Newspaper team is super excited to announce that the bi-weekly Yabbering Yak now spans primary and secondary. You can find the newest issue of the Yabbering Yak HERE!

We have had another exciting week in Primary & Early years as our Year 6 House Captain candidates have been preparing for today’s democratic election, which was held during our assembly time. All of our students were able to take part in a democratic vote for their new student leaders. We will be updating you further on this in the Yeti News and the Yabbering Yak next week.

In addition, our Community Liaison Officer, Sangita Pandey & Community Coordinator, Sona Maharjan welcomed 25 trainee teachers from the Rato Bangala Foundation for their induction session and initial workshop on emotional aspects of child development. This is to prepare them for their teacher training placement which they will be participating in over the coming weeks. The trainee teachers are allocated to a Key Stage 2 class and spend time observing our Primary Class Teachers and Classroom Learning Support teaching team. This is part of our community partner outreach programme and is also a requirement of their successful completion of their teacher training qualification.

Throughout Term 1, during our Performing Arts Workshops (PAWs), the Y1, 2, 3 & 4 students have been having a variety of workshops with our specialist teachers. They are learning the basics of the violin, ukulele, percussion ensemble, keyboard, drama and dance. Each student has two sessions of each workshop so they can build new skills and discover new interests. These workshops require a great deal of focus and perseverance but also develop the students’ enjoyment and passion for performing arts and music. We hope to showcase their new skills during assemblies or concerts later in the year.

Our young learners in Early Years are also taking part in music lessons and performing arts workshops where we focus on developing enjoyment of music, dancing and drama. This week they discovered new percussion instruments in the mystery box, played different musical games and used costumes and accessories to create their own stories.

Our Y5 and 6 students are currently working on their production ‘Trek to the Top’, which they will be performing on the 11th and 12th of October. This musical retells the exciting story of the famous climbers, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa & Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, and their team of Sherpas who trekked to the top of Mount Everest for the very first time. The cast includes some funny yaks, strong Sherpas, scary glaciers and curious reporters! The students are working extremely hard learning the songs, dances, memorising their lines and working on their acting skills. They will also be designing the set, their costumes and the program as part of their International Primary Curriculum (IPC) topic. We hope to see many of you the day of the performance!

Today we welcome back our World Scholar’s Cup Teams for Bangkok. They had a highly successful and enjoyable trip. Thanks to the staff and parents who accompanied this trip. More news on this trip will appear in next week’s Yeti news.

Congratulations to the senior boys football team who, after a tense first half, pulled clear in the second half to secure a 4-2 victory against Rosebud School.

Thank you to all parents who came into Meet the Mentor and the Year 12 and 13 Parent Information Sessions this week. Next week we are again busy with the PE and Sports PIS on Monday, Year 9 Meet the Mentor on Tuesday and Year 10 Meet the Mentor followed by an iGCSE PIS on Wednesday.

What an incredible start to the new academic year it has been for our Year 9 students. It seems as though they have come back from the summer break raring to go and ready to achieve as much as they can. It has been good to see that even with the extension of their work from last year, they are creating and producing such praise-worthy pieces. Not only that, but the students have been fully involved in the wider life of the school participating in a range of extra-curricular activities; helping with the collection for our community partner schools and demonstrating their willingness to take themselves out of their comfort zones to participate in a range of new opportunities. There have been a number of highlights but there are a few below which we wanted to showcase:

In Physical Education, our Year 9s have been continuing to develop their understanding of Asian games by taking part in a house competition of Kho Kho. It is fantastic to see all of the students gaining knowledge of how the game is played and putting a range of different tactics into practice to ensure success. Our winning house for Year 9 was Dhaulagiri!

As part of their English studies, 9C all rose to the challenge of learning some Shakespeare off by heart and can now recite the prologue to Romeo and Juliet.

In Year 9 Science, the students have been conducting their own investigations into Photosynthesis. They were looking into the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis.

In Computer Science, the Year 9 students have been creating their own Tik Tok dances and then describing them with flowcharts using the formal flowchart symbols. There have been some interesting performances and some nicely designed flowcharts to go with them.

Congratulations on such a fantastic start to Year 9! We look forward to seeing what else you can achieve this year!

Over the summer Sivani in Year 11 achieved gold in three different subjects in the Silverzone Foundation’s Academic Olympiad. Well done from all the TBS community!

We would also like to congratulate four students who attend TBS who competed in the 9th Nisharga Swimming Championship competition on the 2nd & 3rd of September. Khayana Gania in Y3 competed in the U10 girls competition, Aryan Shresta & Ayush Shrestha competed in the U10 Boys competition and Tuviah Gania competed in the U12 girls competition.

Aryan & Ayush Shrestha both came in 3rd place and were awarded bronze medals in the U10 boys competition.

Thank you to those parents who have confirmed that their child/children will be leaving TBS at the end of the term, i.e. Friday, 13th October 2023. Adequate notice is a requirement and avoids financial penalties for parents.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The deadline for providing the formal notice of the withdrawal of your child/children is Friday, 15th September 2023. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the admission office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents will receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 4. Please let Ms. Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late notice of withdrawal (or providing no notice) and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.
