Week 11 Enrichment Week
Perhaps the highlight of this term will be the final week of term where we run curriculum enrichment week. For those parents who are new to the school this year, Enrichment Week is a fantastic way for us to round off the school year. Instead of a normal timetable students are allocated to one of a number of curriculum enrichment events. Full details can be found on the Enrichment Week 2024 website and the week will include the secondary school play at the Mandala Theatre on Thursday Evening as well as the World Scholars competing in their Global Round in Kuala Lumpur.
End of Year Exams
In the secondary section we are preparing for end of year exams which start with the art practical exams next week. Also next week we will be briefing all Year 11-13 on the exam protocols and regulations to ensure that there is no malpractice in the exams. Year 7 – 10 will have internal end of year exams in each subject starting with Year 8 in weeks 6 & 7 and the other three year groups in weeks 7 & 8.
Exams can be a stressful time for students and Head of Academics, Ms Williams will be running a Parent Information Session next Thursday at 08:15 in the secondary library about how we as parents and carers can best support our child in exam season. This will be appropriate for all parents/carers from Year 7 upwards and not just for those taking external exams. If you are interested in attending this session, please complete this form.
If you are unable to attend next Thursday you may find the linked document, “How can I help my child prepare for the challenges of the exam period?” with 10 top tips for parents useful reading! Please do contact us should you have any further questions on this matter.
School Attendance during school examination period
At TBS we believe that students should have as much access to subject specialist support from their teachers as possible, so students will continue to attend lessons until Friday May 17th. For the majority of students, this will be part way through their exams, which enables us to monitor student progress and wellbeing as they start these assessments. Ahead of each examination, they will be given opportunities for structured independent revision in school. From the 20th of May, students will be expected to attend school only for scheduled examinations and any prearranged revision sessions teachers run.
Following the examinations, Years 11 and 12 will be invited back into school on the 17th of June for work experience week and bridging week respectively.
Down Syndrome Centre Visit, by Saivi Baidya (Year 9)
Many of the other Aspiring Leaders and I made a trip to the Down Syndrome Centre on Tuesday the 19th of March, where we got to meet and interact with many of the students that go there.
This was truly such an amazing and fulfilling opportunity, which helped us learn about how they live their daily lives to the fullest, despite all the challenging situations they face.
On the Thursday of that week, our DSSN friends came to our school, and we all chatted, danced, played sports, made bracelets and legos, and even gave them a tour of our wonderful TBS campus!
The highlight for me was definitely when we played football with them on our secondary astro, as it was a great way of becoming closer to them and having fun at the same time!
Thank you to all of our DSSN friends and staff, and Ms. Smithers for making this all possible!
