Another busy week to end a successful and busy term. You can read about the NISSA league finals, the World Scholars’ Cup and the Mandarin restaurant trip below. The final assembly of term celebrated our sports teams and record breakers from Sports Day, the winners of the House points competition this term and we made our fond farewells to five students who are moving on from TBS. As ever we are sad to see students leave us but trust that they have enjoyed their time as part of our community and we wish them well in the future. You will always be welcome to come back and visit if you are ever back in Nepal!
Thank you for your continued support – may I take this opportunity to wish you a happy Christmas and a relaxing holiday from all the Secondary Team at TBS
NISSA League Finals
Last weekend saw the culmination of term 1 of the NISSA league. Both the Boys Football Girls Basketball team have developed their skills and game awareness. The dedication, determination and team spirit shown by the students throughout the season and the finals day was exceptional. TBS hosted the girls’ competition where the TBS team played a highly competitive quarter final match against Premier. All was even going into the final quarter, but eventually TBS lost by 4 points. In the football, hosted by GEMS the boys comfortably won their quarter final match against KISC before losing 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout against eventual winners RBS. The team won their bronze medal match, also on penalties, and maintained their unbeaten normal time record throughout the whole league season and the finals day. We look forward to the Girls’ Football and Boys’ Basketball seasons next term. Go Yetis!
Year 10 Mandarin “Eat to Learn, Learn to Eat” Lunch Trip
This week, Ms Wong, Mr McKenna and Y10 Mandarin visited Xithang Restaurant in Jhamsikhel for lunch in order to have an immersive dining experience. During the trip, the class used Mandarin almost exclusively to have conversations with the Mandarin-speaking waiter at the restaurant, including ordering food and undertaking a secret mission given by Ms Wong to interview the waiter with different questions. The students did exceptionally well to speak and to understand the language at a native speakers’ speed. Special thanks to Mr McKenna, who also spoke Mandarin to the students!
World Scholar’s Cup Celebration Assembly
What a fun way to find out what our Yeti Scholars did on their Yale trip for the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions! Our Yeti Scholars presented to the whole secondary school and parents, explaining how the competition is structured and the invaluable skills they learned. They also explained how the WSC tournament has helped them achieve the 5Cs.
We were so honoured to have the parents to join us at the assembly, as they have been an ultimate source of support for our scholars. Heartfelt thank you to all of the parents who have helped along the way. What made the assembly truly special was the visit of WSC guests, Arsh and Naho. They presented the official certificates to our scholars, and even brought a mini alpaca to give to one of our lucky TBS students!
The new season of WSC will start from Kathmandu Round in February. If you are inspired by our scholars, please join our club in Term 3!
Climbing club competition
A top roping and bouldering competition was held for the last session of the Climbing Club this term, with the top 3 and the most improved gaining free entry passes to Kathmandu Sport Climbing Centre. The students have improved their climbing technique, strength and confidence over the course of two terms and the competition was a fantastic way to finish the term. Thanks to the Climbing Centre and Ms Brown, Mr Dawson and Mr Kinchington for all their efforts in the club.
