World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Tournament of Champions (ToC)
Well done to all our very own Yeti Scholars! They had an amazing trip in the US for the ToC of WSC, which was held in the first week of November at Yale University. The trip was very memorable in many ways, because it was, for most of our team, their first time visiting the US. Even more importantly, they challenged themselves to meet new friends from different cultures as well as to compete in academic competitions with other scholars around the world who had also qualified for this tournament of champions. Some of our highlights of the academic event achievement are:
– Shah Zain, Aarush and Krishangi got a gold medal in Debate Champions
– Shrishti and Sivani got gold medals in both Debate Champions and Writing Champions
– Anuricca got a gold medal in Debate Champions and her ranking was in 12th place out of all the Senior scholars in ToC!
They also represented Nepal in the Cultural Fair, by hosting a Nepal knowledge quiz and giving souvenirs from Nepal. Apart from that, they also went on tours to Boston, spending half a day at Harvard and MIT guided by the students there. This allowed them to ask questions to the current students about how to get into top universities, and how to find their own aspirations. It was very insightful for our students. On the last day before our flight back home, we had half a day in New York, where we saw Time Square, Grand Central Station and Manhattan.
Thank you to Ms Wong, Ms Hall and Mr Orr for organising the trip and to all the parents who also travelled to Yale to support and those who arranged such an amazing welcome home party Please stay tuned for the upcoming assembly in the final week of term hosted by our Yeti World Scholars for more great memories and sharing of our WSC experiences.
International Food Festival
It was such a pleasure to hold the FoodFest International event on Friday 24th November. As many of you who attended saw, it was a real vibrant cultural celebration of all of the cultures in our school. As a community, we raised a hugely impressive 304,191 NPR (which is a 43% increase on last year) for our community partners. Thank you to everyone for their generosity and engagement. Special mentions go to the highest fundraisers in each key stage: in Key Stage 3, 9D raised 21,345 NPR, in Key Stage 4, 11M raised 28,150 NPR (highest in the school) and in Key Stage 5 Marston 13 raised 12,175 NPR. Thank you so much to the students for their creativity, to the families who supported their endeavours and to all who attended and got involved! Further thanks to the student FoodFest team who aided in the organisation in the run up to the event and on the day – their contributions were invaluable.
Sports Day
Last Saturday the TBS annual secondary sports day was held at the Nepal Army Sport Ground. It was great to see so many students take part and earn points for their Houses and to witness the high levels of sportsmanship on show. There were a good number of new school records set and a popular inter-house tug of war was introduced to our programme. Even the parents and teachers got involved with their own sprint relay and tug of war competitions to finish off the morning’s activity. This year’s winners were Kanchenjunga with 852 points, 99 points ahead of runners up Annapurna, whilst Makalu just pipped Dhaulagiri for third place by a single point – showing how important it is to field athletes in every single event.
Thank you to the PE Team and all the TBS ground staff who worked so hard to plan such an enjoyable event.
