On Friday we had the pleasure of welcoming parents and family into the Primary classrooms to share our very first exit point of this academic year. 

Our exit points are a wonderful way for parents to learn about their child’s learning and the outcomes across the year groups and key stages, as well as further build collaboration between home and school. 

The children were able to showcase their learning during the brainwaves topic including students in Year 4, who welcomed parents to a brain gym, highlighting the various ways in which we can keep our brains healthy. 

The children shared the importance of physical exercise, cognitive exercise, meditation and mindfulness, sleep and healthy foods. Also, Year 5 enjoyed playing some games with the parents demonstrating how the brain makes connections and then presented posters about all the subjects in the International Primary Curriculum to show the cross curricular links and celebrate the many topics and subjects we cover over the course of the academic year.

The last two weeks we have been celebrating the successes our year 11, 12 and 13 students had in the end of year examinations and this week we would like to share with the TBS community news of our graduating class of 2023 university destinations. The most popular choices for TBS students in 2023 are the USA (9 students), the UK (8 students) and Australia (5 students). Two students have accepted offers in Canada and one in India. Six students have decided to take a gap year and will apply to university for a start in 12 months time. Five students received scholarships to US universities, including one full scholarship and UK placements included economics at the University of Manchester and another at Royal Holloway, London, aerospace engineering also at Manchester, history at St Andrews and in Canada, the University of British Columbia. We wish all our former students well as they take their next steps into adult life.

In the English department, we are extremely proud of the good start students are making from Year 7 to Year 13; they have been challenging themselves in lessons and have engaged well with reading for pleasure outside of school too. 

In year 7, students are building a good foundation for their secondary English studies with an introduction to features of fiction. Year 8 have been reading challenging poetry texts and recapping key terminology they came across last year. The posters below show some examples of their analysis of striking figurative language in their chosen poems. 

Our year 9 students have demonstrated great insights into Shakespeare’s language in ‘Romeo and Juliet’, analysing the imagery Romeo uses to persuade Juliet to fall for him, as seen in Bilos’s work below. 

9C have also learned the prologue to the play off by heart. A snippet of their performances can be seen here. 

As Year 10 prepare for their English language coursework, they have been learning about different rhetorical devices and teaching these to classmates through the posters below. 

In year 11, students have begun studying a Midsummer Night’s Dream and have been demonstrating great revision skills, independently upgrading their writing taking feedback into account. 

Across the whole of secondary, we began the year with a focus on reading. Our library has undergone an upgrade to make it a more effective reading and study space for students, who are already making good use of it. We have introduced the Accelerated Reader programme and are looking forward to celebrating some word millionaires in the near future! 

Thank you to those parents who have confirmed that their child/children will be leaving TBS at the end of the term, i.e. Friday, 13th October 2023. Adequate notice is a requirement and avoids financial penalties for parents.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The deadline for providing the formal notice of the withdrawal of your child/children is Friday, 15th September 2023. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the admission office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents will receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 4. Please let Ms. Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late notice of withdrawal (or providing no notice) and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.

Kathmandu Chorale is starting its Fall/Winter season! Their first rehearsal is on September 4, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Lincoln School. All welcome – those with lots of experience or none. Bring a form of ID.  Please use the google form to sign up.
