It has been an exciting and fun filled week celebrating Nepal in Foundation Stage. We visited a local Thakali restaurant to sample traditional Nepali food, had the opportunity to dress up in dhaka topi and gunuyo cholo and made traditional Nepali crafts such as rangoli and diyos. We also opened our own ‘Early Years Nepali Restaurant’ to welcome and serve our parents their lunch!

Yesterday Year 3 had their parents in for the Temples, Tombs and Treasure Exit Point. They spent the afternoon turning their classrooms into fabulous museums for their families to visit. As parents walked around, the children excitedly told them all about their mummified fruit; their books of the dead; their 3D pyramids; tomb paintings and amazing jewellery. What an exciting topic it’s been, we’ve learned so much!

It has been a great start to Term 2 for Year 11 and last weekend they took part in an Overpopulation Challenge during the international day celebrations. Year 11 students worked in small groups along with year 10 students to create a product or concept that would help to reduce the world population. They had to research their ideas and put together a ‘Dragon’s Den” style pitch presentation and present their ideas to Ms Bishop, Ms Hall and Mr Palmer. This drew out four great finalist groups who then had to present their plan in a final assembly to the rest of KS4 and KS3 students. Ms Middlebrook and the rest of the staff who watched the students present, were very impressed with the confidence the four groups showed and Ms Middlebrook was especially impressed with how well their plans were researched and their presentations were put together.

The four groups that presented in assembly were:

• Vertical farming (pyramid housing and insect agriculture – Philip, Gethin, Mahad & Sorachika

• Education for everyone using derelict housing – Zainab, Nora, Prapti & Amber

• The ‘Need for Seeds’, seed bombs in India & creating edible green spaces – Anoushka, Rajeshri & Amitayush

• Bio Mark – plant based resources to make sustainable clothing for everyone – Devanshi & Soniva

The judges voted for the the first and second place and those awards went to the following groups:

1st place: Bio Mark – plant based resources to make sustainable clothing for everyone – Devanshi & Soniva!

2nd place : Education for everyone using derelict housing – Zainab, Nora, Prapti & Amber!

And there was a final award; The people’s choice voted by students and teachers that went to the Vertical farming (pyramid housing and insect agriculture – Philip, Gethin, Mahad & Sorachika!

A massive congratulations to these groups and all the students that took part. It was a great event and they really embraced the challenges set during the day.

It was also great to see all the students dressed in their traditional dress and representing their countries for the international day parade!

Thank you to those parents who have timely confirmed that your child/children will be leaving at the end of Term 2. On-time notice is a requirement in line with the school’s policy and avoids future consequences.  It also allows us to refund your security deposits on time and helps us to plan ahead for the new term.

The last day of providing the formal notice of withdrawal of your child/children from the school is Wednesday, 16th November 2022. The notice of withdrawal can be provided either by email or written letter to Ms. Manisha Bajracharya at the admissions office.

After submitting the notice of withdrawal, parents shall receive a clearance form to complete the withdrawal procedure nearer the end of Term 2. Please let Ms. Manisha Bajracharya in the admissions office know should you require any school documents/references to provide to the new school.

Late or no notice of withdrawal and failure to submit the form or return the school’s resources may fully or partially affect refunding the security deposit.

This week the Primary School Eco Team have been busy planting seeds and checking classrooms to see that A/C units, fans and lights etc are turned off when the rooms are not being used at break and lunch times. They will be awarding points to classes if they fulfil all the criteria and then announcing the winners in weekly assemblies. Congratulations to this week’s winners-our first eco-warriors of the year!

Secondary Eco-Ambassadors 

Even more exciting news! We are pleased to announce that the TBS community is re-engaging with their recycling effort with our partner Young Effort in Environmental Development. As a school that strives to be as eco-friendly as possible we are thrilled to support our recycling partner by separating our waste into non-recyclable bins and recyclable bins, red and green respectively.

We would like to introduce the new Primary Community Ambassadors to you; Muntaqim and Shivansh from Year 4, Zoya and Eva from Year 5 and Adeline and Nysa from year 6. We congratulate them all with their new role and are looking forward to hearing more about their plans for the TBS community and partnerships with our wider community.

The Primary Community Ambassadors and House Captains would like to say a big thank you to all the TBS families for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Day. So far we have raised 14755 Nrs for our local Breast Cancer charity.
